John Perri is an inspiration to us all.  Not only as a drummer who has painstakingly practiced and researched every branch of his art, but also as an innovator.  If you have been lucky enough to catch one of John's enthusiastic Latin American workshops, you will have witnessed his energetic insights into the Cha Cha, Samba, Mambo, Lambada and Bolero rhythms and also his patented 'frying pan', 'one handed bossa' and 'right hand finger snapping' techniques.

Thirty years on he recalls his first ever drum lesson in sixth grade (which his brother Joe paid for) with Mauro Perez, who taught him how to read and play basic rudiments, to his invaluable time in the '80s with great inspiration and Drumtek legend Graham Morgan.

John's unique style has seen him keep time with the cream of local and overseas talent including Marcia Hines, Venetta Fields and Lisa Edwards, Debra Byrne, Grand Wazoo, Judith Durham with Alan Zavod, Doug Parkinson, Davie Jones (The Monkees), Joe Chindarno, Normie Rowe, Barry Veith Big Band, The Drifters and Diana Trask.

John also filled in for Graham Morgan in 'Dizzy's Big Band' and in addition to his hectic teaching schedule, can be seen playing in 'Lush Life' and the 'Anthony Louis Show Band'.  Phenomenal reviews in 'Skin Full', 'Drum!', 'Herald Sun' and 'Rhythm Magazine UK' have stamped John as an institution amongst our drumming community.

His talents have also extended to pit work with acclaimed theatre productions 'Little Shop Of Horrors', 'Pippin and the Gong Show' and a stint with the Channel 9 band.  Among his career highlights include seeing the master, Buddy Rich, in action and meeting the man in person, to working on a rebound pad with the incomparable Dom Famularo, Steve Smith and JoJo Mayer.

Last May, John presented an original and innovative clinic at Dizzy's Jazz Club.  He painstakingly explained and performed Latin American drumming concepts and their application to Rock, Funk and Fusion genres.  John also demonstrated the Moeller technique and gave valuable insights into brush movements.
