Below is a brief overview of the different Studio One editions that are available to date.  For a detailed comparison check here.

  • Free: Only one audio stereo input (or two mono inputs) and one stereo output. No 3rd-party plug-in support. No official technical support. It includes one native PreSonus instrument plug-in (Presence) and nine effect plug-ins. Zero costs!

  • Artist:  No limitations regarding I/O, but still no 3rd-party plug-in support.  It comes with twenty-eight effect plug-ins and four native instrument plug-ins including a drum sample player called Impact. There are some nice acoustic drums sample packs from Drumdrops available for Impact by the way.  Artist also includes Melodyne integration (it doesn't come with a full license, though)  and you get access to the PreSonus Exchange Server where users can share content like sounds, loops, presets etc. The files are downloadable from the Exchange web site or directly from within Studio One's Browser. If you don't need 3rd-party plug-ins, this version might be a good companion for SCOPE. You can still upgrade later if you need more features.

  • Producer: Support for ReWire and Audio Units (AU) and VST plug-ins, 16 GB of third-party content.

  • Professional: All features including the Project page for Mastering, SoundCloud export, full Melodyne Essential license and the Pipeline plug-in for integrating external effect processors (like Scope plug-ins for example) as inserts.

The system requirements list Windows 7 or OS X 10.7.2 as minimum, but the current version 2.6.2 still runs on both Windows XP and Mac OS X 10.6.8.  These operation systems aren't officially supported anymore though.  The current EULA allows you to install and use Studio One on up to five computers at the same time!  Here you can get a 30-day Demo version of Studio One Professional.   More information about Studio One can be found here.
