You might want to check your Cubase license agreement first. I may be wrong but I don't think you're allowed to sell the VST/dongle separately.

There are very good optimisation guides for Win2K/XP, Win9x/Me, and Mac on this page:

http://www.tascam.com/products/us428/downloads.php

Scroll down a little and you'll find them.

Hope that helps... maybe that link has been posted before but I didn't see it.

[edit] added more information

This is the original 4DSP pulsar and has no optional extras (e.g. pro pack)

Have original CDs and manual but no box.

I'm selling because since being made redundant I need the money.

Please email me if you're interested. Make an offer if you want.

No I hadn't ... I (incorrectly) guessed that adaptec drivers are only required for adaptec hardware - I assumed for SCSI cards (which I don't have in my system). Subsequent research has enlightened me to the ...

System: PIII/800, 512MB, Win2K (with all service packs & patches), Pulsar Mk1 (the original 4DSP model), and SFP 3.1a. This also happens with SFP 3.1

1. Start SFP
2. Put a CD in the CD-ROM drive
3. Open Windows Explorer and go to the CD.
4. SFP stops responding. Go figure.
5. Use Task Manager to ...

The picture in the manual has 4 aux sends and 4 stereo returns ... but they're gone!
The STM1632 in my routing window has 16 ins & outs, mix, plus midi in & out but not aux connectors ?

Did I do something dumb? (and if so, uh, what ? )
Or is there a problem with this device ?

Thanks again

Thanks thermos - a glimmer of hope.
I don't even have a SRB card though: just a Pulsar 1 purchased in early 1999. Anyone else got "only" that card and got SFP3.1 on it ?

Thanks again

Required hardware in the SFP docs doesn't mention Pulsar 1... has anyone with a Pulsar 1 made it work, or should I stick with Pulsar v3 software ?
Thanks

Thanks, Subhuman. I'm glad there is a simple solution.

I do wish that Creamware could have written software that conforms to the standards of the host operating system....
Like, only locking hardware while its using it.

Anyway, thanks

My CD-ROM drive stops working when I start up the Pulsar 3.01 software. This is on Win2K (using a Standard PC HAL) and a Pulsar Mk.1

Windows reports a Drive not Ready error if Pulsar is running. Stop pulsar and the drive is fine again.

Kinda hard to use any sample CDs.

Please, does anyone know ...

I just did that on my system. Had to reinstall W2K, but it worked OK. Instead of pressing F7 when you see the SCSI message, you can also press F5 which shows you a list of computer types to select from. I liked that because it gave me a bit more feedback that I was in fact choosing Standard PC.

Thanks Immanuel, that's pretty much what I thought... The problem is, I can't see a way in device manager to change the resources used by those cards. (Unlike Win98, the options to override the defaults are greyed out).
Does anyone know how to change this ?
Thanks again

I read subhuman's post about installing W2K with the Standard PC HAL
( http://www.planetz.com/forums/viewtopic.php?topic=2897&forum=3 )

Now that I've reinstalled W2K and the pulsar drivers, I notice that there is still some IRQ sharing going on: Pulsar shares IRQ 11 with the LAN card and a SBLive ...

Krip,
The 3.01 update includes an updated driver which you need to install. You should find it in the DRIVER folder under the 3.01 set-up files.
If you're missing the drivers you can download the 3.01 set-up files (including the drivers) at http://www.creamware.de/en/download/softw_updates/pulsar_pc ...

To avoid being burned again, you might want to try http://www.primesounds.com. It's a subscription sample library run by Steinberg, costs US$15 per month (for up to 50MB d/l per day) and you can listen to the samples before you download them. I've found some good stuff there.

Any application or device driver that is running in Windows (or any other OS) consumes memory and CPU capacity, even if you're not using it. That may be an issue if you have a lower spec'ed system or are running resource intensive applications.

A while back I had a (non-audio) requirement to squeeze every last drop of performance and memory out of my PC. One of the things I did was to stop Pulsar auto-loading at start-up.

I'll tell you how, but *be warned*, this involves editing the registry, and making a mistake here can cause major ...
