Back to Nestor:

It's just a matter of adding functionality. It doesn't take away anything.

RSS is easy to add. Podcasts are here to stay. It is not a fad.
I don't dissagree with that, it's just that I honestly don't care! Reaching that age I guess...

Apologies for the podcast misinformation. I guess it really hasn't interested me enough to find out about it

itunes has 10% compared to mp3's 90% of the personnel player market. Plus mp3 is accessable to everyone and is cheaper.

It's actually pretty cool. I Like this week in tech:

http://thisweekintech.com/

and Science Friday:

http://www.sciencefriday.com/

No special software required. Remember if you
don't see a direct download link you can always click on the RSS feed and search for mp3 then paste the url in your browser.

I have to admit that I had to Google every phrase and acronym used in the opening statement of this thread.

I had no idea what "RSS" or "podcast" meant.

The RSS thing seems pretty benign, just a matter of implementation. I can see the convenience of it. Depends on whether or not our administrator feels like going to the trouble...and I can understand if he doesn't want to spend the time. After all, he does provide this wonderful place for free!

The podcast concept requires cooperation on the part of the posters of the music in our forum. Maybe everyone doesn't want to have thier music available to the general public. I think we would need another "topic place" for people to post their music that they feel is ready for public consumption (podcast). I know a lot of the music posted here is just to get other forum members professional opinions on a work in progress.

I'm still not sure what "tags" are...or how they relate to the above stuff.

Advertisments are for products that suck but need to be "moved" out of stocks...
In other words Chinese crap.

Sorry guys, I really don't have the time to add this kind of thing to the forums here.

Unfortunately, I based the site on version 1.4 of phpBB. I considered upgrading to 2.0, so we could benefit from some of the newer features, but I've modified 1.4 so much with the custom music forum, etc, that migrating to 2.0 would be a big development effort, which I really can't afford right now.

planetz is not, as someone pointed out, a commercial venture, so I'm not particularly worried about "falling behind".

The only reason this forum is still here is because some people seem to like to be here. If that weren't the case, I would've shut it down long ago for lack of time to maintain it.

Cheers,
-John

Well that's the end of this thread. I thank you John for this site which I love and I hope it isn't too much of a burdon.

I'm on that list.

FWIW, you have my personal thanks, John, for hosting this forum. In it's current state, it definitely has a positive impact on the value of the CWA product and enables many to reap additional benefit from this excellent platform. If it isn't broken, it doesn't need to be fixed!

He said he can't do it right now. That leaves the door open for future developments.

I vote for Creamware to give John a free ASB box of his choice for being their de facto technical support.

Three cheers for John!

does this mean I have a physical representation ?
I'm somewhere on the net ?
or is it in the context of ...strung out in heaven's high - hitting an all time low... ?

of course all these things are great, as is 'the net' ... in theory and conceptually.
but reality quickly catches up - call it business opportunity or whatever.

today when I (wanna) look up a technical item (say a circuit diagram), which was easy a couple of years ago, I have to wade through tons of pages designed by s*ckers who want to increase their 'ad fee per square pixel' by publishing eBay offers...

the content part of an RSS feed is in fact useful, but since it's depending on a 'subscription' procedure it will quickly be fooled by the ad polluters.
the item itself is pretty misleading btw - it's nothing but a stupid xml form polled at some interval, or I have overlooked something crucial

cheers, Tom
