It IS an m/s encoder, but .. yes, you can mimic the internal fairchild circuit by dropping e.g. a mono (vinco) comp in each slot as the 670 (I think, you are talking about this one) does nothing else than compressing mid and side signals separately, if you switch that behaviour on.Thanks! So it's a sort of middle/side encoder like the chain inside Fairchild compressor?!
However afaik the 670 was not used for compression mainly, but for coloring/degrading/distorting the signal (via the boost, and other knobs).
