sx and windows hanging
New PC :
asus p5wd2
4 GO Ram
P4 830
matrox perhelia
1 pata (system)
2 sata raid0 (music)
1 Pulsar2 and 1 SRB14 (on IRQ 21 and 22)
installation is not pc standard but acpi
I checked th loading capacity of my 2 cards with the masterverb test : 12 and no pci overflow
Now the problem :
I'm using cubase sx3.1.0 build 933 and I've got a very simple project. Only 3 tracks (2 midi and 1 audio track)
I make cubase repeat 2 beats in loop mode
and after some secondes I hear the last sounds repeated (very fast) and windows is hanging.
I tried to get down ulli, I copied the project on the ide drive - all the same !
The audio track in solo mode is playing correctly.
Its the midi !!! but only the first track (midi to sts3000) and not the second one (vsti)
What can I do ?

the midi track in cubase was filled with many events one after the other, each length = 1 measure.
I observed that windows hang when passing from one event to an other
Now I transformed all this events to 1 only event - and its running since 5 minutes looping around without error !
Does this mean that this is more a windowsXP <=> cubaseSX error ?

Gustav I've read your post. Your problem is Cubase, not Scope. It's that simple. We've been using Cubase for about 10 years & the bloody software has always done this. To put it politely, the software is optimized for *continuous* midi/audio recording, scoring, mixing & even mastering potentially.
... on the other hand IT DOES NOT LIKE LOOPING
... & never has
AbLive loves looping, as do may other tools

It's unpredictable on short loops. Sometimes it'll work, others it'll seem like it's having a heart attack. I used to have the same problems on both an Atari Falcon & Stacey. With their big fat dongles & midex8's connected these Ataris had great midi performance, but guess what. .. They didn't like running on half bar loops. Again, sometimes they worked *ok* on a loop, then just decided to flake out.
Were running SX 2.02 build 31 & we have the same problems with short loops: poor midi timing, notes dropped. But it's unpredictable as it DOES sometimes work. Weird !!
Ablive on the same Scope system doesn't have the same problems with short loops at all.
I'm 90%+ shure that it's Cubase at fault.

the main problem was on sts - now I was nomore using sts but only vst and I have to say that the error allways happens - not so often - only sometimes
I tried a little more samplitude, acid, live, logic, and it may happen on all this apps
So I think the reason comes from hardware side
I tried to change hard disk configuration - using only sata - same problem
Do you have any idea what I can try - totally desperated !

i know what you talking about, all i can say "again" is that, soon after i changed mobo, my creamware system works nice,
i also had hangs in winxp using old cubase or new cubase , it was the same,
disabled all stuff in bios, installing winxp in acpi or standard PC, no matter what i do...but interesting, once i have tried to overwrite new drivers with old ones 3.1a and i didn't get any hangs, but just blue screen sometimes, but not so often,
anyway.....
well, i think that you'll have hard time to figure out what exactly is wrong, but i'm not going to use asus anymore for creamware cards,
some says asus works nice, some not,
it didn't work nice for me.....
cause....
with this one, i have made 5 tracks this year, working over 50 hours with my projects and there was no freezes or anything , and i use maximum DSP in sfp and maximum CPU load in cubase, everything was fine.....so.......
my configuration:
2 x pulsar XTC + 1 x LunaII (all on same IRQ)
ABIT IC7 (875 chipset)
P4 2.8 (HT disabled)
1gb RAM (geil dual channel)
radeon 9600pro
maxtor 60gb IDE
winxp
USB midi keyboard
Cubase 5.1
no internet , network card disabled,
all other onboard devices disabled
cheers

thank you fidox !
I'm now ready to change mb but I would like to keep the most of the other elements of this pc, but only if there is no risk :
so the question about the following :
* graphic card matrox perhelia pci-express
* intel 830 3.0 GHz Dualcore
and, fidox, just one other question : are you using sts sampler ?
