that motherboard should be great!
use asio drivers. go to start/programs/accessories/system tools/system information/hardware resources/conflicts-sharing and tell me if any irqs are being shared with the scope card.

I was using asio1 64bits, I tried asio2 64bits some days ago

scopesrb (PCI1, IRQ 21)
pulsar2 (PCI2, IRQ 22)
ON irq22 I have also INTEL(R) 82801 GB ULTRA ATA STORAGE CONTROLLERS

bingo.
the card on irq 22 will have to move to a different slot. also, the card in slot#1 is really close to the graphics card. there may be a heat issue.

did you check for conflicts in the spot i sent you to? if not plese double check there.

also, asio2 64 is NOT 64bit. it is 16 or 24 bit, but 64 CHANNELS. the other asio drivers are 32 channels max.

also, i suspect there may be a midi feedback loop in the way that you have wired the sts with cubase....

Ok I will move the card on PCI2 to PCI3 (I will try I don't know if there will be enough place)

By spot do you mean the systeminformation thing ? Then Yes I checked it and the irq22 is there at conflicts-sharing ...

for the asio : Oh I was not very precise when I wrote the post - sorry : I normally was using asio1-Flt 64 and some days ago asio2-Flt 64. Thanks for the clarification !

I will create a very simple sfp project containing the minimum to reproduce the error ...

PS : I just saw that there is an update of the bios - I will flash the bios too

thank you for your help !

Hi Gustav, you should probably only flash your bios if you need any of the updates included in the new version, otherwise it may not help at all !

cheers

Scopers,

I am having similar problems to gustav. My setup is a bit different, I have a Pulsar2 card in Slot2, and a ScopePro in Slot3 (the slot furthest from the video card). I am able to get 13 Masterverbs (error on the 14th). I have abandoned the creamware midi ports due to crashing the buffers and am using a Novation Remote49 via it's USB interface, and SX3 3.1 (the latest).

My system freezes while I play a fairly simple project (1-2 audio tracks, 3-5 midi tracks). It lasts longer if I ditch the sampler from the project (I use this as a drumkit), but will still freeze during simple editing and switching between Scope and SX. I sometimes get a "Lost communication with..." error rather than a freeze.

I have an Intel 820 processor and 2/512MB Corsair memory. I have tried all the tweaks recommended at the musicxp site. USB2 is disabled, HT is off, but APIC is on. I'd hate to have to resort to StandardPC, especially since many people are having great success with this set up.

Here are the details from the conflicts/irqs:

IRQ 0 System timer OK
IRQ 1 Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard OK
IRQ 8 System CMOS/real time clock OK
IRQ 9 Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System OK
IRQ 12 Microsoft PS/2 Mouse OK
IRQ 13 Numeric data processor OK
IRQ 14 Primary IDE Channel OK
IRQ 15 Secondary IDE Channel OK
IRQ 16 Intel(R) 955X PCI Express Root Port - 2775 OK
IRQ 16 SAPPHIRE RADEON X300SE OK
IRQ 16 Intel(R) 82801GB PCI Express Root Port - 27D0 OK
IRQ 17 Intel(R) 82801GB USB Universal Host Controller - 27C9 OK
IRQ 20 Intel(R) 82801GB USB Universal Host Controller - 27C8 OK
IRQ 21 Marvell Yukon 88E8001/8003/8010 PCI Gigabit Ethernet Controller OK
IRQ 22 Creamware Pulsar2 OK
IRQ 23 Creamware Scope OK
IRQ 23 Intel(R) 82801GB Serial ATA Storage Controllers - 27C0 OK

IRQ 23 Creamware Scope
IRQ 23 Intel(R) 82801GB Serial ATA Storage Controllers - 27C0

I/O Port 0x0000E000-0x0000EFFF Intel(R) 955X PCI Express Root Port - 2775
I/O Port 0x0000E000-0x0000EFFF SAPPHIRE RADEON X300SE

IRQ 16 Intel(R) 955X PCI Express Root Port - 2775
IRQ 16 SAPPHIRE RADEON X300SE
IRQ 16 Intel(R) 82801GB PCI Express Root Port - 27D0

Memory Address 0xA0000-0xBFFFF PCI bus
Memory Address 0xA0000-0xBFFFF Intel(R) 955X PCI Express Root Port - 2775
Memory Address 0xA0000-0xBFFFF SAPPHIRE RADEON X300SE

I/O Port 0x000003B0-0x000003BB SAPPHIRE RADEON X300SE

Are the shared devices on irq16 likely to be a problem? It sometimes seems to freeze as a result of app switching or mouse actions, but I have seen it freeze while just playing back. I had thought that the conflict on irq23 was okay based on garyb's reports of a system he built for another user, but I may have misunderstood. I notice that gustav is having a conflict on irq22, although I though that the board defaulted to irq23 for the SATA drives. I haven't tried switching the cards due to the proximity of the video card to slot1, and the length of my ScopePro card for Slot2 (SATA connectors). Is this my only option?

It would be great if AndreD could include his BIOS settings and other tweaks since he has a lot of experience with this board.

Thanks,
Cory

i would suspect a midi feedback loop or active sensing. usb2 should be ok. maybe a couple of midi monitors will give you some indication. try a midi monitor on the scope midi source first(from the controller)is it streaming active sensing and/or mid clock just sitting there idling?

what is being transmitted from the sequencer? is there a loop from the sts back to the seq?

just a question on how to procede when moving a scope card to another slot :
on reboot the system asks for new drivers - ok.
and then : is a new cw install is needed.

I'm asking because yesterday I moved the pulsar2 of slot PCI2 to slot PCI3. and then I got only "Lost communication with..." messages ...

make sure that screwing the card's backplane I/O plate into place hasn't forced the card to pop back out of the PCI slot slightly at the opposite end from the I/O plate, as that is very common.

garyb,

I'll have to check again, but I've taken great pains to make sure there are no midi feedback loops, and to remove any path for active sensing into Scope. I thought that most of the Scope midi problems related to the physical midi connectors, which I no longer use. I'll re-check tonight, if my 1-yr-old permits!

Are the shared irqs on my system okay? Any ideas on BIOS setup?

shroomz,

I had noticed the connection problem as I built my system, but thought that I had seated the card correctly. I'll check that too.

Thanks,
Cory

disable any port/function that you don't need.

another slot might be better, but other than the ata controller and scope sharing an irq, there's no problem. many devices CAN share, scope cannot(with a few exceptions).

hmm, that should work.
if you are running in acpi mode, why do you have apci2.0 disabled? you might try a ps2 mouse and keyboard. you might try changing the p2 and the srb with each other. you might try changing the pci latency timer to 96, 128 or even 32.
did you uncheck all or most of the selections in the advanced performance settings in the system dialog in the control panel? did you turn off the screensaver and and set the theme to windows classic? these things might help if you have eliminated active sensing from your controller and avoided midi loops in the use of the sts and cubase.....

I would like to reduce those sharing conflicts - some questions if somebody knows ?

Port E/S 0x00000000-0x00000CF7 Bus PCI
Port E/S 0x00000000-0x00000CF7 Contrôleur d'accès direct en mémoire
I can't see what I have to desactivate here ?

IRQ 20 Intel(R) 82801GB USB Universal Host Controller - 27C8
IRQ 20 Intel(R) 82801GB USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 27CC
My USB use : Noah, BCF2000, Cubase-key, Mouse
So perhaps I don't need the USB2 enhanced mode ?

Port E/S 0x00000400-0x0000041F Ressources de la carte mère
Port E/S 0x00000400-0x0000041F Intel(R) 82801GB SMBus Controller - 27DA
What is this SMBus about ?

IRQ 16 Intel(R) 82801GB PCI Express Root Port - 27D0
IRQ 16 Intel(R) 82801GB PCI Express Root Port - 27E0
Why do I have 2 entries like this ?

not all devices have a problem with shared resources. in general, those are normal, safe allocations. the resources ARE limited, and modern motherboards have EVERYthing built into them....

apci2.0 : default was No - did not see this one - done
ps2 mouse - done

keyboard - was ok
uncheck all selections in advanced performance settings - was ok
screensaver & windows classic theme - was ok

so I will try :
changing the p2 and the srb with each other. changing the pci latency timer to 96, 128 or even 32.

I don't know what you mean by "your controller" - my midi data come from the cubase midi track (I verified : there are only note on messages)
I created a very simple project with midi seq => sts and with this project its hanging after a very variable time (not allways the same).
So if there is anything that I can do to desactivate this active sensing thing tell me how and I try.

moved pulsar2 from PCI2 to PCI3
disabled LAN onboard

Sharing Sonflicts are the same as before except :

no more conflict on IRQ22

IRQ 23 Creamware Pulsar2
IRQ 23 Intel(R) 82801GB Serial ATA Storage Controllers - 27C0

This 2 entries no more appear :
IRQ 16 Intel(R) 82801GB PCI Express Root Port - 27E0
IRQ 16 Intel(R) PRO/1000 PM Network Connection

I tested different projects and it seem to last a little longer before freezing windows

I can't move the scope srb from PCI1 to PCI2 ... (sata ports !)

(the srb can't go to pci3 - too long because the antec180 has this floppydiskcase - can't remove it)
