Emu/Scope?

I have a Scope Home. I´m very happy with it, even missing more dsp.
A guy told me that Emu has a card that also works with Dsp, and told me that was better than Creamware and cheaper. I think I have read that the sampler is really sofware, not dsp based like STS is. Anyone know something about that card?. Can really use VSt without latency? or is instead a soundcard+sofware?

for what i know, instruments bundled with that card are software and act as any vsti...
emu cards use dsps that can run fx without latency tho,
if you have sounblaster live or audigy lying around you may want to try kX drivers
which provide asio functionality, a bunch of dsp based fx and some modular routing

I run both a Scope system and Cubase SX with EMU's Emulator X software/hardware combo. For all intensive purposes the EMU hardware is a software dongle. None of the Sampler's processing or built-in effects use the hardware DSP. The card's drivers do providing a mixing environment for monitoring and routing that does allow for effects that are on the card, similar in quality to that of Creative Lab's consumer line of products. I use an RME audio card on the Cubase machine so I don't use any of the DSP effects. The ones built into Emulator-X are decent. As far as samplers go it's one of the few that really acts like the older hardware samplers do. For some this is a problem, but I really prefer it. The Emulator-X filters are fantastic and the new X2 (version 2) has a completely custom filter setting amongst other new features. I hope this helps.

Same thing here. emulatorX run standalone with EMU 1616M, and route thru adat to creamware.
EmulatorX is really cool, and can stream samples from hd. Filters are really good. Integrate well into Creamware thru adat, and doesn't cause any problem on PC. Midi drivers are also pretty good, i can run big sysex dump from my AN1X without any problems, unlike creamware midi ports.
Allways wanted a real good standalone sampler, EmulatorX is the one!
BTW, that 1616M has 2 TFPRO preamps and mastering grade converters with 122db dynamic range. That make for a first class input stage for creamware

i have emu x and the card has the only function of a dongle.
With the new update of emu/proteus x, it should be possible to run the software using usb devices has dongle, such as the xboard controllers and the new 2in/out midi interface.
About the dsp's on the audio board, they are not so good to be compared to scope.

Unfortunately there is no way to purchase the USB MIDI interface/dongal on it's own.. so if you wanna use it you have to buy a new system altogether and sell your existing one or just swallow the costs of a new one all together. I don't know what they did this - who has room for another 1 or 2 PCI cards when they won't really be using them!?!On 2006-05-29 02:45, djmicron wrote:

Well, since it´s only a dongle I´m not interested on it. A guy told me bad things about Creamware, and told Emu 0404 was better for only 100 Euro. He told he had been both and sold them.
My conclusion is that is one those guys who is running without knowing to where. He spoke about Creamware Dsp´s was very old, and the company is fraudulent, since Emu had new DSPs, well, if the new Dsp of Emu are not used I´ll very happy with the Creamware old ones.

Ask the guy if you can do something like this on the EMU dsp

more has been done with less

Nope, the only DSP processing on the Emu cards is for FX - it has a chip based on the old Emu RFX chip, which had pretty unspectacular algorithms.
The EmulatorX and ProteusX software is just that - software which runs on the CPU.

nobody of the emulator x/proteus x users make use of the 404 dsp's, but the emux sampler is in my opinion the best soft sampler on the market, it's a real synthesizer with unique z plane filters and the patch cords gives you unlimited modulation routing.
It's one of the only vst/standalone instruments that i use and the emu's pricing philosophy is very actractive.

I agree w/ DJMicron. I don't use their soft sampler, but I have used their samplers since the early '80's, and their support Pre-Creative was excellant. I used them since the Emulator II, up through the Emulator 4x Turbo, so they have been in the business longer than anyone else. Plus they sample!!
Imagine that. They had the foresight to go to software at the right time, plus enormous sample library. I recently converted my old Emu library to Giga, and yes it sounds better than the old 16-20 bit stuff. If you want to Sample, or just play everyone else's stuff, you can't go wrong, but get some more DSP's cause you definately can't go wrong with Scope.
