What about creating a delay module with several seconds of delay (BPM sync possible), with a feedback set up so that the sound is repeating endlessly at the same volume?

let's say that the delay time is 4 beat
you play a phrase of 4 beat and now the delay will endlessly repeat that phrase. of course since i don't think it's possilbe an auto-quantize, you should be very precise!

with a midi control, you can "bypass" the delay stage, so you can continue to play "over" the phrase you just recorded, maybe for an improvisation.

now you have two options: you can overdub a second phrase (using the same bypass on/off switch) or, with a second button (midi controllable), you can "erase" the delay memory and record a brand-new phrase.

now... imagine to have several of these devices, all connected in parallel, all midi controlled and all connected to different sound source... you can easily make a one-man-band improvisation

Astro mentioned that John Bowen had used a similar method in one of his sequencer designs, so it may be that what you're after already exists

Oberheim/Gibson Echoplex, but that is hardware. But the reverse looping is way cool. My Line 6 Echo Pro lacks the memory to do everything, so I use Celmos Tape Sim in additon to that, but I think I too will buy Wolfs Matrix Delay to help with this small dilemma. Astro speaks highly of it, and if he says it's good, that's all I need to hear.

I used to use Wavelength's Infiniti Delay for this kind of task. Maybe not quite what you're after (no BPM sync) but if you haven't checked it out already....

Atom, I think that patch could be packed into a standalone device or new modular module if it didn't use flexor.

Ed - just noticed it doesn't use Flexor after all ...

at0m, is it O.K. for you, if I'd try to rebuild your device in SDK? Surely there would be your name on it. I would try to copy it 1/1.
