New Core2 PC, what to buy?
Hi all,
im buying a core2 pc next week and want some tips what to get.
heres what i had in mind:
Intel CoreDuo2 E6600
Asus P5B/Deluxe(is it worth buying the "deluxe" or stick to a normal P5B?)
2 x Maxtor 320 Sata2
Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400C3DF(thats 2 modules of 1GB)
I have no idea which Videocard to get, it must be dualhead.
And which powersupply do you guys recommend?
Cheers

as to vidcards, i suggest nvidia.
i usually use evga, never a problem. just get a cheaper model, almost all are dual head. you should spend about $75.
i have been using intel d965ry and d965lt motherboards. you can get one for $100-130. these are stable and easy and cheap.
i use wd harddrives. i've had a lot of bad maxtors, but never a bad western digital. the wds have much longer warranties to boot. the price is about the same.

I've never made bad experiences with my Maxtors, they all worked fine.
Only with an IBM I had much trouble, but I could save all my data a little bit tricky: It worked only some minutes, so I connected it, copied as much data as possible and let it cool down a day, then the same procedure ... Nothing lost., but a little bit annoying ...

Stay with simple motherboards. The extra's that Pulsarians desire are DSP's, not bells and whistles on motherboards. Your basic meat and potatoe Intel mobos w/ the E6600 will run SFP / Gigastudio 3 & GVI / and Sequencer package. No need to overclock. The 4MB on the E6600 is only noticed in Gigastudios convolution reverb, so the E6400 is a great buy in that case. If you buy AMD, we shall thank you also, as their sucsess is vital to us in keeping Intel fast and cheap.
maxtor bad?????
I've been a fan of Maxtor a long time, and I know of the problems. You know what the weird problem is.....(Garyb will like this
Cheers Gary
My friend with P4 and Maxtors.....had severe problems....with 3!!!!! maxtors......ticking, not booting, losing partitions......All three of them
ran absolutly flawlessly on my system.....an Athlon system......
I don't know if this is due to the board, chipset or CPU.....Cause his latest non-functioning 160GB is running in my PC as BACKUP!!!!! And it;s fast, and also not letting me down....
But i've used Seagate, WD, Maxtors and IBM, all worked fine for me.

The P5B seems to have some problems with more than one CW card / STS sampler combination. So Watch out.... http://www.planetz.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=21482
