Dynadrive Disortion FX ( Flexor I )

Post by hifiboom »

here is a very simple distortion device.
+ needs not much dsp
+ great results on 303 sounds
+ great on drums ( especially to roughen up kicks etc.)
+ everything other that needs distortion

Its a valve drive where the amount of distortion/valve is controlled by an envelope follower.

For example you want hard kicks from a dry 909 bd sample without getting that annoying noise at the decay/fade out... set the release to relativly low times....

amount on valve drive to 0 and mod amount to higher positive values...

And you get pretty nice techno/trance kicks that have punch but never sound annoying.
Set the attack to relativly small values, for example 0,003 or higher for smoother attacks and to 0,000 for cutting hard attacks..

For fx style fx run a dry kick through it, set amount on valve drive to highest level and mod knob to negative level.
So the transient of the kick stays dry and the fadeout gets distortion. ( nice too )

It also works fine as distortion fx for dry 303 sounds as the example shows....

For even harder distortion replace valve drive with the Flexor guitar drive.

I`m sure it also works nice on other things whenever you need a good sounding distortion with low DSP need.

have fun. F2 is coming

Preparing 4 battle 'eh ? Good, as this might sound nice on my superclean LSAD library. It is an acurate, dynamic set of acoustic kits, w/ great mic placement abilities, and seperate convolution impulses per drum also. But the hardest velocities lack bite. Distortion usually fixes that, or SSB Modulator too.

Thanks 4 The Patch,

yeah check it out and give some feedback....
I have great results...

of course this module is mono, but can easily expanded to a stereo module....

make sure that the envelope follower is not clipping, by checking the peak level meter in the patch....
If the envelope follower is clipping than the dynamic part of the distortion is falling away.....

It works nice on many percussion sounds, and the effects are from compressing up to heavy distortion of the sounds and everything in between...

I never heard of a stereo kickdrum B4, but believe it or not Larry Seyers Acoustic Drums w/ embedded impulses has one. I also purchased a couple betas from the factory last month for my twin Barbetta's, stereo subs !! It's way FAT w/ Scope / Gigastuff.

This Completes My Wall Of Sound, A Guitarists Nightmare When He Trys To Play Louder Than Nescessary. These Crank Up All The Way w/ ' 0 " Distortion, Except 4 The Rorary Cabinet's Natural ODrive w/Tubes. The second phase of the doppler effect ( Low Rotor ) is electronically recreated in stereo from an output on the cabinet. These haver more control over sound than my old Leslie Pre amps and cabinets had.

I just A/B'd w/ headphones / speakers. I am not used to speakers sounding better than my headphones which are 3 way stereo. It sounds really nice and bity w/ my analog synth / and the Pro One's mono too. The envelope follower allows taming of the bite too. Nice job Brotha' Man HiFiBoom.

great try replacing the valve with flip n clip and other distortions to get different flavours (even much more heavy)...

You get absolut high freq. tweeter killers with the other stuff. :)

have a listen
