What up all pulsarians!!

I know pci overflow has been discussed to vitual extinction here but I don't think my issue is that of a normal occurance.
I have just created a dual boot system between win ME "my old DAW" and now win 2k.
I am wanting win 2k to be my DAW's OS.

I only get pci overflow probs when useing the sts 3000, and all I have to do is load the module into a simple project, with no samples or effects and within a couple minutes I will get the error msg.
I believe it is just the sts because I can have my dsp's fully loaded with other modules, right up to the redline on the dsp meter and not get the error msg.

Is this an issue that anyone one else has?
Any information on how to correct this would be appreciated.

thanks,

nuence

Oh I am running...
P111 800eb,
clean install of win 2k "updated"
asus p3v4x "all drivers up to date"
Luna 2 with version 3.01b soft.

It is an issue with your old VIA chipset. It happens when you use PCI intensive devices: delays, reverbs, or samplers.

There isn't a lot you can easily do on the VIA, but start by checking all the "Via fixes" in the Tips & Tricks section and go to http://www.viahardware.com and download all the various bug patches, PCI fixes & latency patches, and you may be able to work with a few more STS voices.

Reduce your STS voices, each one takes some PCI.

Other than that, the best way to get the most PCI is to simply get an Intel chipset-based motherboard or an AMD76x chipset.

Thanks for the quick reply Subhuman,

I guess the sts is very pci intensive, because i have loaded my dsp's full with reverbs and routed audio thru them for at least 30mins and no problems at all.

The funny thing is though, that version 2.5 for win ME and 2.5 beta for win 2k never gave me this problem before with the sts?

I never realized that that sts voices were useing pci resourse until u actually had samples loaded and running.. I will first try that and see how many voices i can get without overflow.. Thanks for your help man, even though it looks like i will have to be upgrading to fully solve the problem anyways.

thanks again,

Hey Sub,

I should have checked this before I replied the last time...

I tried lowering the voices down to 1 voice on a program with no samples loaded and from just moving the sts windows around i get pci overflows..

I have also tried setting the priority that "luna.exe" gets in the task manager from normal right up to real time, and it makes no difference. By the way is it a good i dea to set cubase and the luna software to the highest priority, or should i just leave them on the defualt?

Anyways just thought i would let u guys know.

Ihave the same problem with my 3000 under XP

I can use reverbs and efx without problems
but as soon as i load the 3000 i get the message.

I also have a dual boot and with 98se and 2.5 of Luna everything works fine!

I think there is a difference between 2,5
and 3.01 with regards to the PCI use.

We just have to hope for a better deal with 3.1
