Facebook is no more devious and evil than the rest of the "social net". You can go to any community site anywhere and you will always find people taking advantage of others. The same rules of caution apply to Facebook as to everywhere else: Use your personal details sparingly or not at all, don't install applications you don't trust, turn on every concievable bit of security software you've got, and be generally suspicious of everything. If something looks too good to be true, it usually is.
If you don't want to use Facebook because of spyware/adware/security issues, then you should also avoid MSN Messenger, ICQ and other IM clients, most open forums, most websites with any active content at all; in fact, you'd be better off not connecting to the internet at all.
Cheers!

are you working for facebook? I like the idea and the concept thats why I got an accaount, but there are only a few people out there I can cope with. And I don`t fancy seeing all this nazi scum when I just wanted to search for some local networks.

I don't mind 'people' - but I guess for an account the provider of the network will request information related to an existing person, usually the one asking for the account...dragonfly wrote:Facebook is no more devious and evil than the rest of the "social net". their recent attempt (that got the press attention) to exploit 'profiles' was just a bit premature - obviously they expected far more progess of deafness and stupidity...
righty, right - that's exactly what I do...If you don't want to use Facebook because of spyware/adware/security issues, then you should also avoid MSN Messenger, ICQ and other IM clients, ...

and soon I will setup one of the retired Macs from the office dedicated to internet access only

cheers, Tom
it really is NSA run.
the site is used to profile and track the youth....here's a google search of "facebook nsa track".
that doesn't mean that you shouldn't use it, though. the cellphone and email providers are wired directly into the NSA/dept of homeland security as well(sieg heil!). still, a word to the wise is sufficient.
