Scope Production Rack

Post by dawman »

I have the old school Scope DAW w/ Gigastudio 160 Vrs. 2.54.

This still runs great off of a Supermicro nP4SCT+II w/ P4 3.4EE.

I do not wish to upgrade as the group is booked, and the DAW runs flawlessley. But there's some production money to burn and I was looking at the Muse Reasearch Receptor Pro, w/ NI's Komplete 5. I can get this second hand ( Floor Demo ) for 1899 USD.

Is anyone using a Receptor here who could elaborate a little bit for me?

This would enable me to have Giga as a back up and run Scope by itself w/ the DAS Mixer and stock synths and plugs.

I wouldn't dream of upgrading the Scope DAW until a 2 week break in late May, as long as I can bribe GaryB to come back again that is.

There is suppose to be an AMD Turion CPU that runs w/ a Linux based O.S. This box can also load several plugs at once and has 2 GB's of stock RAM.

I am feverishly trying to learn Cubase 4.0, Reaper, or Sonar 6.0, or the 8 VSTi's I have purchased.

Trust me, I am not very knowledgable or patient with this stuff, but am making headway.

It's hard enough for me to get everything working to do a gig, much less this stuff. But I have limited time, and zero brains.

I was going to just convert some tape to mp3 of my older stuff, but hey, I bought this shit to learn and use, and I cannot see posting old recordings just to prove my chops. I'd rather use my new stuff, and incorporate these beautiful synth patches I've created.

If GaryB would not have installed and constantly upgraded everything for me, I would not even be doing gigs w/ this stuff. Thank God he makes DAWg's that hunt, or I would be up shit creek w/o a paddle.

I can make presets for hours on end or practice, but when I record w/ this stuff and have troubles, I bail out as people think I'm nuts as I scream and curse a machine while wearing my headphones.

I keep going back to my hardware consoles and tape. This must change.

Thanks 4 Reminding Me.

It's not about accomplishing something. It's about suffering G.A.S! (Gear Acquisition Syndrome)

Like my friend said, boys want to play with their toys :)

That was my original inquiry. I was wondering if anyone was using a Muse Receptor. I was curious how much more efficient use of memory and instument loads that a Linux O.S. offered.

I found the answer @ KVR-VST after many people bickered about which model, CPU, blah, blah.

Turns out that Muse Research has designed their own custom Operating System that appears to beat the stuffing's out of OSX, and XP / Vista, at least as far as efficiency in memory loads, and streaming are concerned. And the CPU that runs the 3U rack is an AMD Turion ??!! Very impressive indeed.

This thread has shown me two new tricks.

1# ) That this 3U DAW ( Receptor ) is a solid solution for VSTi's live.

2 # ) G.A.S. ...

GAS is the funniest syndrome gag I have heard in a long time. I suffer from 3PDS ( 3rd party developer syndrome ), and GAS.

That's a great one Brotha' Man Spoimola.

And Brotha' Man Music Manic, I appreciate your offer, but I have the sexy voiced Digital Doctor DVD w/ video and audio tutorals. I shall call upon you brother when I get stuck, but only after I get the basics working.

For example when I need to download a Cubase file to the net.

Thank You My Brotha's.
