Turning on shutdown in WinXP Standard PC mode

I think this nice trick provided by Subhuman should be found here:

An easier way to add APM back into a 'Standard PC' install: Device Manager, View, Show Hidden Devices.

Now, you should see NT Apm/Legacy Support as an item in your list, probably with a red x mark through it. Right click, and select Enable. That should be it, your computer can now shutdown properly.

ahgrhh! why this options don't work for me?! i check my friend's computers with xp instaled. everyone have NT Apm/Legacy Support with X!!!
only when i instal APM driver i can see NT Apm/Legacy Support but with ! on NT Apm/Legacy Interface Node

oooops! i bother again about that but can't help my self!

please,somebody give link where i can download APM driver!!! - maybe i have wrong one?!

sorry! after all i was thinking that i'm the only one with this problem.
i do clean xp reinstal, but this time i set standard pc mode by pressing f7 in the begining of instalation. after instalation i just enable NT Apm/Legacy Support!

i think that i had problem because first time i instal xp in acpi mode, and after instalation do update to standard pc... or i do something else wrong... i don't know, but now is ok

When I select shutdown under windows XP it doesnt shutdown, it reboots. It didnt always do this, it used to shutdown.

Any idea what I might have changed for this to happen?

My XP started to do the same! I'm not sure whether it does a clean reboot or crashes in the shutdown process and reboots as a result. Sometimes after this reboot/shutdown XP says that it wasn't shut down properly so it could be crashing instead of rebooting. I don't know a solution for this yet.

Hm, did you make a custom startup graphic? That might cause it according to this (in italics at the bottom of the page)

thats just for win9x, XP uses a different mechanism for the startup graphic

I would like to know how to do this without reinstalling windows
