What about this new granular synth?
Hello everybody,
I finally made it and recorded some random sounds from the Gizzmo Synth.
Nothing special, just some freehand sounds I recorded on the fly.
http://www.chipmusik.de/gizzzzmo.mp3
First you hear the timestretching abilities. The flute sample is triggered and I'm tweaking the speed parameter in realtime.
afterwards I play some notes and the speed is set to zero. I'm tweaking the position parameter to 'scroll' through the flute sample.
after that, you hear some random presets. The Vocal like sequence is played with the sequencers. No formant filter is used. It's a vocal sample containing a-e-i-o-u and the modulation sequencer is used to vary the position in the sample.
No external FX were used. Audio directly recorded from the gizzmo audio out.
I hope you like it!
so long,
julian

I don't hear any sound when the music-player is launched. I'm getting silence as it plays.
EDIT: My fault.

I'd rather appreciate if the developer focusses on the synth engine
every Scope user has a vast FX rack by default, not to mention those blessed by Adern's or SpaceF's rigs (just 2 mention 2
from a synthesis point of view I found it interesting to observe, that a lot of the example above (I know it covers just a tiny range of the possibilities) has a stunning (tonal) similiarity to a realtime controlled classic 6-op FM synth.
I recently picked a handful of 'outstanding' (imho) DX7 presets and loaded them into a DX200 groovebox, where they could be tweaked with dials in realtime - something the original Yamaha doesn't allow (without special hardware or sysex programming).
cheers, Tom

hahah same here.darkrezin wrote: it really bugs me to have to keep switching off the FX in synths like Pro12/Prodyssey when flicking through the presets.
but with scope its just okay. you do it just one time and then its off for all presets..
this gets more annoying when you use VST plugins that switch on the fx on every preset!!!

super annoying.... i hate it

It would be cool to have such a global feature: like switch all onsynth fx off....

exactly! if you must switch it off every time it is annoying!hifiboom wrote:but with scope its just okay. you do it just one time and then its off for all presets..

yes but the current way is already ideal IMO. any FX you don't want to use, you switch off individually. c'mon that's 1 or 2 clicks more, you lazy buggersIt would be cool to have such a global feature: like switch all onsynth fx off....

still, i like to have 'more complete' presets with FX* included. you have the choice to use them as they are or swap them with some other fx.
*and/or FX-slots, so you can use your favorite Fx, like in most /all of the (newer) JB-synths, e.g.
imagine any modern hardware synth without built-in fx extensively used in their presets...ok, may sound like a dream to you...

in the end, i think the built-in FX of the gizzmo (ringmod, distortion, SR-reduction) are good completions to its sound-engine. just my 2c.

Multiple AUX's controllable via MIDI CC's keeps my synths FX free.
I enjoy controlling the surfaces of everything w/ pedals and CC's.
I absolutely detest reverb on synths hence this unorthodox approach.
BTW I really like this Granular device.
Is it available in Scope 4.5 as well?
I am just curious if anyone will be left behind.

About the build in FX blocks. I tried to avoid FX like chorus or delay, since you can easily use scope plug-ins for that purpose.
For the Gizzmo I tried to include some FX that benefit from being inside the Synth.
The formant and combfilter are great if you control them with a key follower or the internal ModSeq. Distortion and SR-reduction make lovely sounds if controlled by an EG or key velocity. You can even use the Gizzmo LFOs to make wired FM sounds modulating the SR-reduction or the comb frequency in audio rates.
Another nice feature is that you can route the internal FX in the Gizzmos signal path. you can not just use them on the synth output, but you can also position them before or after the HP/LP.
Maybe all of this is also possible with a modular system, but not with normal external FX plug-ins.
The Gizzmo should run on Platform 4.5, but it needs quite some DSP power.
best wishes,
julian
