Creamware , possibly cauding driver issuesss

Post by broken_halo »

Well to start off I might as well give my specs for the system. It is a home built system from the ground up , intel dual core 1.6 ghz , asus p5-k mobo running 2 gigs of cruzial matched ram (good stuff) Radeon 2600 hd card running dual monitors. Operating system is windows xp pro edition.

As far as my gear goes , im using a scope project card running to a creamware A 16 running 96 khz (only 8 ouputs)

My problems dont seem to lie there.

I am using sonar 7 as my primary DAW and it seems to work well togethor but I am noticing constant system crashing , in the middle ( more times than not) with no bluescreen or anything. Im not sure if there are any problems my scope card could be adding to this problem.

I have worked and worked as to finding a problem , the only thing I cn think is ramm , but Im kind of that a loss of what else to think.

If anyone has had any other problems like this please help!!
Cheers

how much usb stuff are you using?
if you can set the computer to actually show the blue screen(if you havesnt already), have a look at the culprit driver when it crashes. probably about half the time it will be scope.sys and the other half it will be USB(something).sys

I never tried scope with a p5k, its not a bad board though i have one on another machine (server) and that one has never ever crashed even though it is on all the time.

are you by any chance using a USB midi port, or something else USB that uses a bit of bandwith?

when it comes down to it, scope does not get along very well with usb thats on the same IRQ. check your device manager, maybe you can move the usb things to a different port, or move the scope card to a different slot. yes it can be that fussy. good modern motherboards for scope are the exception not the rule, and i dont see many people recommending asus since back in the TUSL2 days.

I dont have much in terms of usb midi and that kin of stuff , the only thing using usb are the ports on the front of the comp and the back (where my mouse is plugged into). As for the asus board its working fine and as far as I can tell not part of the problem at hand

there were several people having problems with the p5k-mobo, including me.
my troubles stopped with taking another board. look here:

it doesn´t have to be like this, but it´s possibly a irq issue.
use the search function in the forum.

what are your system's irqs?

possibly you have a midi controller which transmits active sensing. you can check this with a midi monitor in Scope, and then you can use a midi filter to eliminate it, if active sensing is present and it can't be turned off on the controller(midi monitors and filters are available in Scope's midi menu).

it would be easier to diagnose the problem if you described the exact way that the computer crashes. does it freeze or reboot, or does the program just quit?

are you running any cracks of any kind?
