there is no such thing as justification of A16 streetprices. they just go for the prices mentioned,
for whatever reason. as long as other people are willing to pay lets say 200 EUR for a unit with even a questionable background, their reasons are irrelevant for you.
one might want it for the "vintage touch" it is rumoured to have, others just want another unit matching the one they've already got, and others like it for its rackspace saving design. I mean, how many affordable converters with 16 I/O taking up 1U only are out there?

if you don't care that 4 ADATs will take 4x3U and may draw much more power than the single A16 (ok, 2) and have to be managed for doing their conversion job (I somehow remember you have to arm the tracks, but maybe I'm wrong here) instead of just switching a single unit (or two) on, it's absolutely fine, as long as you're satisfied with what you have, and the price, of course. I for one wouldn't pay more than my budget for gear that has no more advantages
for me than just some vintage touch, too. if there are additional reasons to have it nevertheless, I'd take the included vintage as a free bonus, of course
I still am willing to buy one with the terms stated above. But if there's actually a market for these 'vintage status' converters that justify the price of 200 euros and above, I am over my head here.
if you find a person to sell you his unit for the price you want it to have, great. but why should anyone sell it for less than half the price he could get from anybody else (apart from doing you a favor)?
just because you don't think it's not worth that price? come on

and there is no point in discussing why stuff on ebay sells for this or that price. if we only knew...
