DP35DP IRQs
Re: DP35DP IRQs
yes, type 1 and type 2 cards both run the same software in any configuration.
Re: DP35DP IRQs
That's great. I'll get his type1 pulsar and give him one of my lunas. I have two lunas and one pulsar one. That way, I'll be with only one luna on my main system, and add another type two card soon, maybe even a professional 14dsp one. And with the two type1 cards I'll put together another system with 32 channel adat input for live recordings. That would be a 8 dsp system, and the maximum dsp load should be in the ballpark about what these cards can handle PCI wise anyway.

Re: DP35DP IRQs
mmm... Do you think I would be able to run two pulsar1 type1 cards in a DP35DP with full DSP load withou PCI limit overflow???
Does anyone knows about such a system?

I have a PulsarI and older SRB on my system, and never get PCI overflows.rafafredd wrote:mmm... Do you think I would be able to run two pulsar1 type1 cards in a DP35DP with full DSP load withou PCI limit overflow???

Yes, I ALSO have a Scope Pro on the machine, but before this card was added, I never had problems.
IF you are pushing a ton of reverbs, synths, and big mixers, you may start hitting the DSP ceiling, but the PCI issues never show up here.

Hey siriusbliss, thanks for your input. Care to share your PC configurations? Most important, what Motherboard and processor are you using?

I believe my DG is in the same family of sorts as the DP's.
Good, stable motherboard in my experience.

Re: DP35DP IRQs
type 1 cards will ALWAYS do worse pci-wise than the later cards, sorry.
if you get 9 masterverbs, yours is working perfectly. how many reverbs are you using in that project? you must really be using a lot of delays and reverbs to have a problem. like siriusbliss, i have a mixture of old and new cards with the same limited pci performance that you have, and i never have problems....

Re: DP35DP IRQs
No, I'm using NO masterverb the projects. Just the big STM mixer and lots of compressors and EQs. No verbs, no delays.
Re: DP35DP IRQs
hmmm, sounds like my mixes(actually, i usually have a reverb and a delay or two, sometimes three).
how many asio channels?
how many asio channels?
Re: DP35DP IRQs
mmm... MANY ASIO channels. Never less than 48. Could that be m,y problem? I may put some subgroups on less important channels there inside Cubase for less ASIO output channels, now that you point it.
Would a standalone PowerPulsar 15DSP board make things better PCI-wise? as far as I understand the 15DSP hardware is also TYPE1, but does these boards have a better PCI bandwith when used alone in a system maybe??

Re: DP35DP IRQs
a stand alone power pulsar would definitely be better. they are type 2.
yes, some sub mixing would be a good idea, although it might not be necessary with all later cards...

Re: DP35DP IRQs
wow, so they are also type2? I never understood the difference between 15DSP boards and 14DSP boards. I though the 15DSP ones were type1, like the PULSAR1... So, why is there a 15DSP and a 14DSP board? The 15DSp are older isn't it? Nowadays you only sell 14DSP...
Just two of the 15DSP boards could make a hell of a system at 30DSPs! And easier to configure than three board systems.

Re: DP35DP IRQs
yep.
the earliest 15dsp boards(which were "Scope" cards, the 4 dsp was a "Pulsar") were type 1. when the Pulsar 2 was introduced, the 15dsp cards were reworked(called "Scope SP", "Scope DP" and "Power Pulsar"). later, the dsp that handled some on board functions was removed and you had a 14dsp card. functionally, the 14 and 15dsp cards are the same.

Re: DP35DP IRQs
I see. So, the 15DSP cards in fact work as 14DSP card, because one of the DSPs is just for internal card prossessing, that on later 14DSp cards were done in another fashion... Got it.
Re: DP35DP IRQs
Just replaced the PULSAR1 type1 card for a LUNAII card in the studio, and now the thing works rock-solid! So, in the end, it seems that in larger DSP systems, like more than 8 DSPs, type1 cards is a NO-GO! I still have to try my two type1s together and see how they go in a 8DSP all type1 system though. I hope that with no PCI overflows, I can have a 32 in/ 32 out really nice recording rig for live work with my old type1s.
Thanks for all the help.

Re: DP35DP IRQs
it all depends on how you use the system, if type 1 cards are go/no go.
i have 2 type one cards in a 23 dsp setup and it's more than fine. the type 2 cards use the pci bus much more efficiently so i'm not surprised that you have success now. i'm happy for you.

Re: DP35DP IRQs
I see, so I guess two type1 cards for a 32 channel asio recording system IS A NO GO. Is it even worth to try it?
Re: DP35DP IRQs
well, i think you can get 32 channels, it depends on what else is on the bus and in the project. i've certainly accomplished it with two type 1 pulsars and one power pulsar, but if i were to get a pci overflow message, i would probably reload a few times to see if i was just near the edge or really over it. since i didn't set up your computer, i'm not sure if you have it configured optimally or not, i just assume that you do.
32 channels would probably be near the limit with a reverb and delay in the system. the pulsar2, luna, power pulsar, scope home, project and professional will have no problems with 32 asio channels at all.

Re: DP35DP IRQs
Well, so I'll try it.
I'll build the system with my two type one cards and see how it goes... And yes, I do all the tweaks necessary and even some more.
Thanks one more time!
