HI All
I have SC5 up and running on Windows7 RC but I notice that the SC Scope drive properties Preferred Bit depth it set to 16. Does this mean that the sound card is only working at 16bit? Or has anyone manage to change it to 32bit?
Would be grateful for some advice on this.
Regards
Gary

Hey neighbour (SE5 here). i don't think that windows thing is important or represents anything that's actually going on. No doubt gary b will confirm.

HI
How you doing?
Does this not mean that the audio engine is only working at 16bits, would it not be better at 32bits?

Re: Sonic Core Scope Properties
Well i think that's just a Windows thing - Scope runs internally at 32 bit whatever you do externally. Then if your DAW is set to say 24 bit like mine then you are working at 24 bits externally (ie. your recording engine) and 32 bit conversion in Scope. i've never even checked that dialogue box before.
[edit]Looking at it again i see it's just for Wave sources. Is that what you were bothered about? Must learn to look more carefully. In that case then it just affects Wave not Scope. Should be able to set to 24 bit though - i use 24 bit Wave Source - wonder if it's been running at 16 bit all this time?[/edit]

Re: Sonic Core Scope Properties
I run wave 24bit now thanks to Mr Arkadin advices,
and I haven't changed anything in the windows configuration for sound
(i've always been using wave 16bits, and the 24bit does the same, for example, i can play any mp3s or wave files and they play fine (i thought they could be faster or slower, like playing 48khz on 44.1 etc, but no it is just fine).

Re: Sonic Core Scope Properties
it is a windows thing, if you notice you can't play a 24bit file with mediaplayer.
when I mix a song and record it in wavelab with 24bit drivers from scope I get a 24bit file, everything works as it should because wavelab is using the drivers direct from scope the windows setting doesn't matter
nice to meet you giles, I'm a giles too
