Dig back far enough and you'll find attempts to do cpu affinity here, I even had limited success with that previous to 3.1 (or 3.01c or whatever it was.) I recall there were a tiny handful of others trying to use dual cpu setups back then (marcuspocus or someone with Athlon MPX?)

Sorry that wasn't meant to somehow demean or lessen your post, was just relating this has been an ongoing thing. Imo Nuendo (previous to SX) picked up this problem when VSTi support was added in 1.5.x, though it improved a bit in each successive Nuendo/SX iteration.
