I've never heard a softsynth emulation which sounds identical to the original. Come to that I've never heard any synth emulate any other synth - the closest is probably John Bowen's ProOne. But there are too many subtle differences that no emulation will ever capture. But should "100% accurate emulation" ever be the aim anyway ?

@Arish: at mjerom's site

@Ronald: hmm, have you tried distorting output of FM4 a bit? pulsar D/A outs are definitely inferior to DX series in being dirty...

well it is inspired by dx100 features
because the dx is a simple FM synth .
On the one hand, FM 4 still lack
feedback fonction & LFOz ....
On the other hand FM 4 features a better
velocity response than the original yamaha .

Iam sorry maby it looks like iam putting the fm4 down , Buts not the case.

I think it's difficult to recreate somthing thats so dirty as the dx-100.

But like i said its a step in the right way.
We need people like u to try to get as close as possible to the real thing.

because when my dx-100 dies i need u to help me to find that solid bass i love so mutch.
So keep up the good work and smile

If u need some samples from the dx-100 let me know, If i can help u to push up the quality of the fm4 , u can count on me !

For now goodby and keep on programming !

FM 4 is one very good emulation (I`m really impressed) ,another which is the exact match in quality (as far as my ear tells me)is NI´s FM7 which is a software DX7 and you can even import the sounds from a hardware DX7.
It must be possible to make perfect emulations of digital synths but not of analog synths because of the natur of digital and analog tecnology.

Hmmm. I don't know if I'd even bother comparing NI's FM7 and this FM4. About the only similarity is the name.

I would hate to think people would download this machine thinking it was going to rival FM7 in quality and just be terribly disappointed.

Unless you are just meaning the quality of their respective emulations...?

Little and powerful, I like this combination. Very nice sounds can be pulled out of it. Thanks very much. J

This is a fantastic synth. I have used it on all my projects since I downloaded, and only looked back in pity at my former self !

I was VERY surprised to see any complaints at all. It is easily the best synth of its kind that you can get free. I like this FM thing . . .

let it be known that I too think the FM4 is a nifty little synth and useful for all sorts of things, especially since it's so DSP-friendly.

I just wanted to say thanks for this synth!

A friend of mine has borrowed my dx100 for the last few years, so this will come in handy
