I’m wandering what is going on for YOU, who has already started to do something with this new version of Pulsar Software. Please, let me know how it feels, what’s your intuition of it, why, whom, when, what for, I don’t know, anything… everything!!! PLEASE

I suggest you start reading the manuals, and keep an eye on the forum. There's a lot of catches for us, who are used to 3.01. But I think it must be fantastic for a newbie,
-who doesn't have to convert the preset lists (oh well, the option wasn't there before:o),
edit it tried to convert preset lists now, it's so easy. Won't take long, conversion's a great new feature!
-who doesn't have ASIO assigned to wrong CW OS,
-who knows he has to drag the devices from the dropdown menu, instead of clicks on them, (thanks KimGr for that)
-who just puts the unzipped manual files in /manuals/[language] instead of our 3.01 /manuals (was quicker in 3.01 but is not necessary in 3.1;)
-who has the update to only install the registered devices (quite annoying in XTC) edit I had problems, probably of my own fault, temp dirs from XP etc
-...

It's quite a big step, and something new we'll need to get used too. It a big step forward in the DSP platform.

I AM VERY HAPPY with SFP, my problems should not be taken as a battle everyone will have to fight. Maybe I have too much gear for my limited brain power

Why I'm so happy:
1) CC# presets and
2) dual CPU support
have always been my number one priority. Now it's just there!! I'm freaking I'm chilling Going out of the roof Maybe little too excited during install...

I don't mind if it's just different, this is part of the update itself, but would like to see my knowledge of the old OS is still there... so no need to start learning again. I mean, I hope it's a bit like Cubase updates... Hope so...

Well I've had a day of it....

First off, let me caveat this by saying I am on a Mac.....

That being said....

After fooling around with 3.1 today, I have re-installed 3.0.1 and am sticking with that for the time being...
Why?

1. On 3.0.1 my windows are stable. I don't get any garbage. Everything looks nice and tidy. On SFP I have lots of garbage, the only way to clean it up is to hide the program then show it again...a real pain since you have to do this for every new window.

2. Some devices (that I like) don't work. Three-o-three doesn't load. Inferno doesn't show up properly.

3. Presets. I have been d/ling the manual all afternoon, so I didn't know there was a conversion needed for the presets.....
that being said....LOTS of presets won't open.

4. Auto routing doesn't work with EVERY mixer, just the new ones. Well, I like the Bigmixer....but it doesn't auto route.

5. Live bar is buggy. It just doesn't work smoothly.....the sub fields aren't labelled so you have to wait for the auto pop up to tell you what they mean......

6. It is just frustrating. 3.0.1 runs so much better on a Mac.

One good thing.....the "clicks" in the STS modules are mostly fixed.....that is the only thing I wish I had in 3.0.1.

I have been on the phone with Paul at tech support today. He said that "the germans" (that's what he called CW) knows about the problems, but that they were focusing on just getting the software working, and that these issues were not high up on the priority scale.

I understand that....but....they are enough of an issue to keep me off of 3.1.

I hope CW posts a "patch" of some sort soon.

Cheers

Can't share your frustrations here.
But I'm on PC...
Everything is damn smooth so far. Graphics are much faster. Can load DSPs up to the maximum. Older projects load fine (I've only tried with the recent ones). It looks like Creamware has finally made it. Feels solid. But well, these are just first impressions...

I'm on a PC and I start having problems if I go beyond 60% of the DSP meter. I have 11 Shark DSP chips.

the live bar is useful (i thought it would not be)

When you replace something it just wires it in the same (i like that)

the menus work like they do in modular 2(slightly annoying)

the mouse pointer turns to an hourglass when you are joining things in the routing window (unnerving at first) the mouse is a nice small crosshair instead of ugly big pen when on pads (good)

devices I dont have are listed (because i used scope SP install so my extra decvices would be installed with allkeys file) [i can just delete them and they will dissapear. they are just folder listings]

some old devices i tried still work (not many yet).

I can open scopeDP without changing drivers!

Thats all I have time for tonight, but i am happy with it so far..

i want to hide only the live bar! if you use routing window it's annoying!

the new mixer 1632 is shit compared to old bigmixer!!! it lacks EQs (even if you can load them as inserts) and busses.
i can close an eye at the only 4 aux, but i've just learned how to use the busses... and now they stole them!!!!! (you can use direct outs, but it's not the same)

PS:i don't have mix package 1 -((

Well I'm finding it very smooth to work with - it seems leaner on my system, and less time wasted generally.

I made a fresh XP install on a spare HD. Here's my first impression, like if I were a new user, without OS 3.01:

-does not install unregged devices now
-does not install synths!!!
-Cubase doesn't give 'lost drivers' popup when changing ULLI  nice extra!
-XTC runs smooth
-Wav Dest actually works now  so it's not a bug, like on my other install
-I need new regkeys for all 3rd party regged stuff...
I'll be back later, but I think it works very well on this new clean install. What can't be said from the dual 3.01/3.1 setup.

All running smoothly here so far. Installation was a breeze and I strongly recommend importing the allkeys.skf file. This saved a lot of hassle.

The screen updates are noticeably quicker than 3.01, perhaps because I don't have a particularly fancy video card. My previous projects all opened without a problem, but I noticed the Pulsar mixer sometimes displays a blank window when I call up the channel panel. I have to shut it and then re-open it to see the channel strips.

I still find myself reaching for the routing window to do all my routing but I'm sure I'll get used to the Livebar in time.

System:
PIII, 512Mb RAM, Windows ME, 80G & 60G HD's, Pulsar II, A16 Ultra, spicy dipping sauce...

It surprises me how different your experiences are. Why are they so different? If there is a bug somewhere, it should be there for everybody not just a few of us.

Well, if one of Creamware's members said there are some bugs, well… so there are… but which ones are them exactly?, because if a few people do not experience these bugs, they are probably related with their setup,I think so, perhaps...

We will probably need a new way of setting up our systems to adjust to SFP

For me it runs sweet. I'm using only XTC mode with Elektra and Pulsar1 on Windows XP. Everything loads with ease, the software seems stable and even the latency/PCI capacity problems seem to have gone. I can get 7 DSPs full (and my Powercore also) without timing problems or PCI issues. Also I/Os work fine. This is great!

This is really terribly, terribly, off-topic and I feel bad etc  , but Janilla, I didn't think they had any penguins in Finland ?

Isn't a polar bear an animal that lives on penguins?

no penguins are too small to support a large animal like a polar bear.you must be confused with a walrus.you should shave.

Did I notice someone mentioning that #CC assignments are saved in presets!!!!!

If this is correct that I'm going to have a huge sigh of relief. I'm sure I wasn't the only one who was totally mystified that saving these setups was actually removed in the version 3 upgrade.

WOW! I'm really excited about that - I can midi up my machines in a sensible manner.

What's even better, CC# presets are a parallel list of presets next to the knob/fader settings presets. You can simple import your old 3.01 preset lists into 3.1, the CC# presets won't get kicked out but added to it!

Here's some constatations I did yesterday. It are errors/remarks,

-For Mixers: do not try to use ie. 12 CC# and 20 presets to automate full mixer, cos how would you remote all simultaneously from your sequencer? Use one preset, to control the whole device, or as much as possible.

-STM1632 crashes SFP on selecting new CC# preset.

-STM16S does not remember righthand channel of stereo pair, when disconnected from lefthand side. It does keep it's CC# in in the View though, but the connection CC#-slider is not restored on decoupling L/R channel.

OK - those niggles aside Atomic, I'm going to go home and dance a jig of glee.

I really didn't think this would be covered in this release and I'm so pleasantly surprised. Thanks for making my day.
