!!! RANT !!! reduced I/O on 6DSP boards

Post by rafafredd »

Hi. Am I seeing "things" or is it reality?

Did Sonic Core took out I/O options from the 6DSP boards???

I remember it used to come configured with one of the the three I/O options (Classic, Zlink or Plus) with up to 28 I/Os. Now, the 6 DSPs system are listed on their site having a maximum of 20 I/Os only and the Z-link option that used to have 28 I/Os now have just 12 I/Os. This looks bad, guys!

Why would Sonic Core take a very good product and make it worst? After so many years of being a user I can't believe that did it. This is the kind of BS that I didn't expected from a company like Sonic Core, who took over the Creamware legacy to make it better (at leats that what I expected).

So, the price didn't came down? Only the product lose functionality? That's it?

I would like to hear what's the position of someone inside Sonic Core team. I WAS just going to buy a 6DSP board, but I got pushed away by this. Maybe it's about time to leave??? Maybe I should just forget all about that Creamware thingy and get another board that has OSX drivers?

I always positively believed in the Creamware and Sonic Core brands. This is a very good product, and even after ten years or more, nothing really beats it, in my opinion. But I'm SO frustrated and disapointed by that 6DSP "cutting corners" decision they did that I might just forget about this bwonderful system. And if they won't change it, I'll neVer ever make free marketing and promotion again to SonicCore products. So many hours talking about it, making my friends and studios in my region also buy it. And I might also sell all my boards, even if they go cheap, just because this is all just ridiculous and frustrating.

WHERE IS OUR Z-LINK OPTION WITH 28 I/Os THAT WAS ALWAYS AN OPTION FOR 6 DSP SYSTEMS???

Hã? You thought that it would be too much for a 1.290 EURO soundcard? Well, I don't think so. It's about the price, and it's not cheap. Now, an 12 I/O card for 1290... Well, that's expensive for sure!!!

This is NOT something a good company would DO. NEVER! and after more than ten years offering the same product? To change it? To make it WORST?

How do you think that we, customers would feel? Do you actually feel we would LIKE it?

And don't come offering me to buy a board with more I/Os for the same price just because of my rant. That would sound even worse. That would be awful in fact. Make it available again to anyone wanting to buy boards. And for the same price.

And never ever again put money, research, work and staff in making products lower-end.

Spend it all in writing OSX drivers (and LINUX for that matter) to really make it the best system in the market.

WHY DON'T YOU PUT MONEY AND RESEARCH AND STAFF IN MAKING PCI-e CARDS INSTEAD?

IN MAKING GOOD PRODUCTS that don't overuse and stress the PCI-e bus capabilities? because after all that waiting, it seems that it's exactly what happens with the XITE-I. So, why didn't you make a 4x PCI-e card? Or 8x or even 16x after all this waiting???

I'm not happy as a customer, and this is the first time. I hope the days of Creamware would come back.

Well, I'm saying this because I just saw it in the "BUY" section of the site. It's there. 6DSP boards with only 12 I/Os. And no more 28 I/O boards with 6DSP. For 28 I/Os we now need to buy 14DSP boards!!!

From what I understand, they do no longer make the cards - they are just selling their stock. So no way they are making new daughterboards with less I/O now... Maybe indeed they combined the Scope cards with certain IO and the Pulsar2's with others - that is, if there's any left in the stock.

As Garyb suggests they are working on new hardware, I'm most curious to what they will come up with!!

Why not email them, or a retailer, with your specific configuration request, before starting to panic?

Well, it might be just a typo in the buy section of the site, who knows. I though it was very strange anyway to cut I/Os from a well established product. I hope it's not the case anyway...

So, no more boards from SonicCore. And what should we expect now?

Well nothing new will come out on PCI, so S|C will either release another rack mount product, or a PCIe card or both. Since they already have the rack mount option covered, a PCIe card might be a logical next move for market coverage.

Hi there ;)

I want to clarify. We didn't change any I/O options on the
PCI DSP cards. Just the ADAT connectors on the 3DSP extension
are modified. (The new revision is available up from begin of 2011.)

Gary is right: You can expect something else. It is intended that
the 6- and 14DSP cards will be discontinued then in active sales,
and be available on request and for repair exchanges only.

Best regards
S|C Holger

Hey there's plenty of support from the folks I know.
So far 3 composers are enjoying a platform they never even knew existed.
One of them is a monster programmer using C++ too.
He will be excited when the SDK is released, and so will I.
My nose is already Brown from when he makes sudden stops.

Glad to see you checking in Bruda Mann Holger.
See you at NAMM 2011. The Jager is on me.
Please bring Jurgen too..
He is too much fun.
This time we shall take the Founding Fathers picture poses.
OJ was getting too much attention last time.
