Anyone know of any 24 bit string ensembles that would load into STS ? And anyway to tell it to use up full polyphony by doubling when less notes played in the chord ?
I've been building my own String Ensemble Combinators in Reason but only 16 bit. I group together 16 samplers loaded with different polyphonic string samples.
If I play a triad I get the sound of 48 violins. But if I play a single note 32 musicians go on strike (the sound is of 16 violins).
Googling around I stumbled on the concept of 'Section Balancing' -

with stuff like this the temptation to up the $$ outlay is definately there......

Re: 24 bit string ensembles / section balancing.
So basically what you want is to always have the same number of instruments playing so a single note sounds like as many people are playing as when you play a chord, or even have 2 parts of the section playing different parts, but it always adds up to the same amount of instruments.
I doubt it can be done with the samplers the way they are now, it might be possible with some MIDI trickery in your sequencer.

Well this is exaclty what this DVZ thing reckons it's gonna do. But its not released yet so no price. Its a 70 piece string section

I do not really do any orchestra stuff, but that makes perfect sense.
Hasn't anyone ever used a fixed pool of "musicians" rather than an "voices per note" before?
It could get a bit complicated when you WANT some of the musicians to STFU
maybe you can have a CC which allows 1 to 127 musicians to be awake

This is a Kontakt library, hes using footpedals, pitch wheels and a second keyboard to switch orchestral sections in/out. Pretty cool.
