Video adapter

Hey there,

after i upgraded my system to new configuration,
intel quad core
intel chipset
winxp sp3 ACPI
ati sapphire radeon

i'm getting a lot of blue screens, sometimes 1 time a day and then works fine,
other time 2 or 3 times a day, depends,
and i'm suspicious to ati video conflict.

Cause when blue screen, it writes more or less,
try changing video adapter, bla bla bla...

I was checking irq's, scope cards are , each on different irq,
i have disable all stuff i don't need ,
all usb's, other pci-e slots, ide , everything,
so ,
i have checked video adapter , it's shared with intel storage 2-port sata,
don't know the right name right now, cause i'm at work,
but should i try to connect to other sata port ?
Isn't this normal, that some things are shared, ati video adapter is always at 16irq if connected to first pci-e slot, can't move to another, cause scope cards needed pci slot space.

Should i also consider to buy maybe Nvidia card, better than ati ?

Or, what's with disabling multiprocessor in bios ?
Is it performance much wors or how exactly play this funcion when enabled ,
let me say in Cubase ?

Like i said, more or less my system works fine, time to time i get those conflicts,
which i think it could be video adapter,
but you never know

Any tip or help would be nice,

well, blue screens are usually a hardware problem. it's possible that the video and sata shared irq is making problems, but i wouldn't normally expect that. if it's the #2 sata port, that'd be connected to the 3rd harddrive(the first one is usually called sata 0), you probably aren't using that port right now. you could even disable the port to test, if that's the case. you might also try a different video card, if one's available, just for a test. the other likely culprit is the power supply.

I have browse net about blue screens,
mostly i have message STOP 0X0000008E, but like i said not all the time.
I have checked irqs again and i was wrong , it's not sata port, but Chipset PCI Express Root Port,
i think this is not the case either.

Also, at one site i read, that it could be RAM problem, so i checked bios and by default ram was at 800mhz,
i have 1066mhz ram and also motherboard supports that frequency,
then i have load optimized defaults to auto configuration and leave RAM at 800mhz,
so far no blue screens.
Will test some more in next days.

Why i'm suspicious to video adapter is cause sometimes i get blue screen connected with ati driver message,
now i have installed just ati driver, latest one, without ati catalyst control panel.

Here is also picture of my irq's, and i think i have enabled very little things.

From my view, there are not really big differences between ATI or Nvidia, for gaming only, I probably would prefer a Nvidia, though.
These newer graphic cards like much power, so as Gary pinned out already on the power supply, I can just agree.
I had the same prob, unpredictable blue screens from time to time on my older system.
After the upgrade with a better power supply the problem vanished.

Hmmm, computer isn't that old already, 1 year and i'm not using it much.
I have bought quality power supply, like i always do, when i upgrade to new computer.

But, it's an option to try and like i said, after i lowered RAM frequency, from 1066mhz to 800mhz,
no blue screen yet.
