There's this really amazing shimmer effect that was probably first introduced by brian eno. If i got it right it's a pitch-stifter to reverb feedback loop. You can find some youtube videos as example. And there's this valhalla vst guy who built a amazing shimmer vst plus-in. take a look at his web page.
