Remix of Lamb's song "Butterfly Effect"

Post by sunmachine »

I did a remix of Lamb's song Butterfly Effect as part of their remix competition. I used Six-String and MINIMAX.
Actually it's just a rough mix that still needs some polishing... (but the deadline arrived all of a sudden...lol).

Since I don't have any acoustic treatment in my room yet, it would be interesting to know how it translates to your speakers.
So if you like, take a listen and leave a comment!
It's not heavily limited so you may have to turn up your speakers, though. ;-)

There are 600+ entries for the remix competition btw... http://lambofficial.com/remix-competition-good-luck

Hi there Sunmachine

Mixing! It is so demanding…, but with practice you will do it. Of course, perhaps, if you allow me to say something, I think the first lesson to be learned about it is that you need to LEASTEN, not only to the mix, but to what everyone will tell you about it too, it is essential.

Talking about your butterfly effect song, I found it too harsh somehow, even if distortion is not clearly perceived, it seems that the whole track is a little distorted, perhaps you pushed it too hard. Pan is very important. You tend, in this song, to central pan everything. Finally, and sort of doing a general review of the mix, I would say that its main problem is that it is too crowded from the start, this is more a matter of composition than mix. But you know, every experienced expert tells the same, for instance, Paul White: “the mix starts with the composition”. It is true, because you have to already think what you want to do in the mix, this is much more difficult for the composer, because you need a double inspiration, the one to lead the song and the second to prepare for the mix.

Keep going and keep experimenting. If people don’t answer you here too much, just insist, I you bet everybody will be happy to help giving you their ideas :)
