Motherboard ?

Post by tuzzan »

Well ! It´s time for me to uppgrade my pc and need I some help with "what motherboard to use".
I have 3 Pulsar cards and after some reading on this forum, my earlier choice asus with 1155 socket wasn´t
the best choice.
So , what kind of motherboard are u using, ??? I need to install a 64 bit system with 16-32 Gb Ram and a Intel i7 .

My old system is a Quad 2 Core 2,8 Ghz with 4GB Ram and the old Asus P5K deluxe, to bad It´s only possible to upgrade to
8 Gb Ram . Otherwise a great system for me.
Well I really need some help with the choice of a motherboard that has 3 PCI slots, up to 32 Gb Ram and support for a i7,
and that works with my Pulsar cards.
Or should I stay with what i got and upgrade to 8 Gb Ram 64 bit of course ? (I don´t know big the diffrense would be compared to 4 Gb ram) .
Working a lot with Natives Kontakt, and alwaysneed to freeze my tracks :-(
Tanks for all suggestions !

what's wrong with committing to a few tracks? every part of your computer would prefer to playback regular wave files, but that's another issue.

get a socket 1156 motherboard. it may be a little harder to find, but it doesn't even have to be new, if it works. they take i7s that are more than close enough to the current 1155 models. they can handle the stupid amounts of ram. there are also several that have the needed pci slots.

or you could just start with 8gb of ram and then see how it goes. if you're still underpowered you can go i5 or i7 socket 1156.

there are always limitations, that's part of what makes for innovations. :D

Hi Garyb !

Thanks for the reply :-)

Well , nowdays I use more and more instruments and particular Native´s Kontakt with Studio Drummer an a bass libirary as well .
That is about all that my DAW will do ;-)
I guess that 8 Gb of ram will make a big diffrense (I hope) for me .
I´ll look into this 1156 socket motherboard :-)
Thanks for making it clearer , mabye my old system is worh 8 gb after all ???? It still Rock :-)

Thanks again 1

All the best :-)

 I like that " Stupid Amounts Of RAM. "
What is stupid is that NIs KOntakt finally uses lossless audio ( NCW ) and 40-50% RAM is needed.
I think that's great especially after I struggled getting 24GB at 1266MHz/ CAS8 /1.5v just to find out my template uses about 6GB max.
If I was just doing the Allman Brothers kind of Gig I could actually perform in 32bit and Drag Gigastudio back from it's death.
I still think it sounds much better than other samplers, and they say it's all 1's and 0's but maybe Gigastudio nullified or some other scientific explanation....

I'd try with 8gb on your actual system before...

Well first get Windows 7 and try it on your system, and be sure it installs without problems and works with your Pulsar and sequencer with stability and without any problem.
Then go for the 8 gb... they do a lot of difference compared to just 4.
If you don't need huge orchestral templates with VEPRO I think 8 gb will be enough for you.

I have a Dark Infinity motherboard with a Quad Core 2.4 gHz and I had difficulties at installing Win7 64bit (had to update bios), and I have often blue screen crashes (strangely not while I'm working with Cubase and Scope), and still haven't fixed the crackels&pops inside Cubase.
And it's not a IRQ problem now, 'cause I have inside only my Pulsar 2 (I removed the Pulsar 1) alone and using an IRQ not shared with anything.
Could be my old videocard the issue? (a Radeon HD3850)

Good luck. :)

I run a SCOPE 3 PCI card / 25 dsp system (Pulsar1 [6 dsp] + Pulsar2 [XTC card w/ additional I/O card] [4 dsp] + Scope SRB [15 dsp]).

Current motherboard is MSI P55-CD53 (MS-7586). This MB appears to be out of production and stocks are limited... but still exist. (maybe not for long?)

System runs Scope 5.1 on Windows 7 64-bit and also dual boots Windows XP 32-bit (for some odd software and Scope SDK).
RAM:: 8GB. CPU:: i5-760. Video:: Nvidia GeForce 9500 GT driving 2 Samsung monitors.

No Problems :-) at all since building it (for about a year).

Additional info... sequencers... Cubase, FL Studio, and Reaper. (Liking Reaper more every day).

This is the 3rd or maybe 4th Scope system I've built since my first days with my original Pulsar1 card... it's rock solid.

I also use an MSI, their no bells and whistles are really appreciated.
But newer PCI based motherboards seemed to have make a comeback lately as I have seen many with 3 x 32bit PCIs.
BTW your 2 Oscillators work perfectly in the CITE-1 and are truly excellent Modular devices, so thank you for that work...
