All moving over the earth - Music Vid

Post by Tau »

Hi,

Wanted to share with you a track I made a while ago, that uses a lot of Scope. This one has Pro-Wave, Several Six-Strings, B2003, and also a touch of Nord G2, Z3ta and Battery VSTi

It's really just a simple song, completely synthetic. The vocals are real, but have been heavily (!) processed so as to sound nothing like the original take. Mixing was done in Scope a well, but Mastering was done professionally. The video was made by a friend of mine.

I hope you enjoy it:

Thank you!

Sounds great, but what made you want that choice of video...?
I love it, but I was brought back to the days of Hee Haw and Lawrence Welk, and them babes were really loose, my God, it hurt watching them, and I am still rather limber form excessive Stretching my whole life.
The one the got me was when they looked at the camera and their legs wlaked around their head.
Scope and the Sonar Zeta make a good match.

Hehe,

The video was made without me knowing what it would be like, I was very surprised as well the first time I saw it :) But I have to say I like it.

Love that part you mention :) And glad you liked it, thanks for listening.

hi Scopus, thank you very much! I thought the video was quite hypnotic, and find myself replaying it often :)

I write as Aqob, but in this case, I am also A kinder bot. This is a slightly cleaner mix than the original, so I decided to name it differently. It should get a proper release during the following months, most likely on Question of Time records, as part of an EP called "love is always on". I'll let you know here on Z when it comes out.

Most of the videos on that YouTube page are for music I made, except maybe a couple of them. There's some more unreleased tunes (mostly have at least some scope in them) in http://soundcloud.com/aqob , and previously released material is now available in most download shops (iTunes, juno, whatpeopleplay, etc.)

Hope you enjoy them, many thanks for listening.

Beautiful song indeed! I liked it too.

When we, as composers, do a song which is simple, we tend to say that “even if”, or “despite the fact that”, to apology for it being simple. I do the same too, but hey, simple doesn’t mean bad or ugly. Your song is great and it shows that a simple song is not a synonym of simple music, which is a totally different thing.

In fact, we can find that very complex music sometimes is so empty that it is “musically very simple”. Well, just a thought about the word “simple” used for created a song.

Good mix too, who did it and how? I don’t know if you can answer this one, but I try.

The video is surprising yes, it has kind of a silkiness feeling to it, cooling effect.

Hello Nestor,

Thank you for your words. There's a story to this track, that I'm not getting into right now, but I am happy to tell you a bit more about the mix…

All instruments, except the main vocal, are synthetic. There's a Pro-Wave right from the start, playing a bassline of sorts, and the guitar-like lines were made stacking 3 Six-Strings and a Mod III patch with Flexor distortion modules. Each floats in and out of the mix, to create a richer, more changing sound. There's a B2003 playing a mellow sound in the first chorus, in order to fill up the soundscape a little, while providing some sweetness over the edgier sounds… The final chorus has another six-string instance, and some ethereal pads from Z3ta for a certain lift, supported by a sustained bass sound from the G2.

The drums were programmed in Battery, with some parts sampled and processed separately. The vocals snippets (all moving) and the backing choruses were made using a text-to-speech program, then Melodyned and band-pass filtered for that bullhorn-like tone.

The main vocal was fun to do, it was recorded via a TC Helicon Voice Prism, then modified using Steinberg's Voice Machine, and Melodyned. I wanted a synthetic, unnatural sound, but avoiding the traditional auto-tuned cliches, as I also wanted it to have some sweetness, in lack of a better word. Tuning is easy to do this days, but I wanted to change the tone completely. I transposed a couple of copies of the vocals to make some backing harmonies as well.

First arrangement was made in Live, then the audio files were exported to Cubase where I assembled the mix. Stems were bussed out to Scope, where the stereo mix was made, using the SpaceF FP106x mixer, with the RMX160 reverb and SpaceF delays as AUX, and then several instances of PEQ4 and DAS compressors in the channels. A touch of BX digital and DAS 2A on the master bus, and that was it.

I later asked someone to master this for me, and he came up with this warm, clear sound that makes all the difference. But I'll tell you more about that when the EP comes out ;)

And again, thank you for listening :)
