4 PCI CARDS?

Post by YISH313z »

Is it possible?

I have no more pci slots left, but I plan to purchase a 15 dsp card, I dont want to lose any extra chips if I dont have to, even if it is the Luna card, which btw has 5.1 on it.

If this could work, I was going to go the PCIe to PCI route withe the adapter from startech.

Any suggestions?

I would make my own STDM cable of course.

I thought there was an address limitation on the number of cards?

Actually this should work. I have 4 cards myself and I looked into it myself a few years back. And the message from SonicCore I believe it was or maybe it was Creamware back then, was that it propably should work, but it was NOT supported. I even had them custom make a STDM-cable for me. And when the great day came for me to actaully try it out, some idiot mobo designer had placed a big condensator on the mobo so it was impossible for me to use the needed PCI-slot. So, I was never able to try it out (if anybody is looking for an extra XTC card, I have one), but as I said or was told, it should work.

Cheers,
Thomas

Isn't it the case you can cascade 3 x PCI cards into one system via the STDM connector? -

Yes, 3 but never heard of 4. 4 could work but not supported.

I made some test with 4 cards a few months ago (a set of 3/4 DSP cards) with a custom made 4-port STDM cable but it didn't work... But any hints on how to achieve this would be welcome...

Any more than 3 PCI cards has NEVER been possible as far as I know.
AFAIK it may be a limitation of PCI itself rather than the cards.
