ULLI settings (PC)
try again with an additional 256mb-dimm...
@ vadline: no idea, your system should be able to suffer much lower latencies... perhaps it is your operating system, which windows version do you use? what tuning did you do? try to set the virtual memory to a fixed size, so windoze doesn´t has to resize it all the time. eliminate all background applications (noone eliminate cubase
)

more ram.
tweak windows, especially virtual memory, as Mo suggests.
try 98lite.
turn off video card hardware acceleration.
work in 16 bit color mode.
check out your BIOS, and turn off the stuff ya do not need
what motherboard are you on?
check out the tips and tricks for a good section on audio PC customization.
I am working @ 7ms on Pulsar I + Luna II with an AMD K6-2 500mhz with 384MB RAM on a shitty VIA MB without problems, so I bet your problem can be fixed.

You can easily get rock solid 13ms latency on the PulsarI/MakeI hardware.
If you add any MakeII hardware (Luna/PowerSampler/LunaII/PulsarII/ScopeII etc), and connect it via STDM to your makeI hardware, then you get ULLI for your whole system.
With ULLI, you can get 13ms or lower, depending on your RAM, CPU, and chipset
So, if you have a Pulsar2 SRB, you already have ULLI.

Is this a Cubase VST 5.0 related problem or does this also happen with other programs?
Perhaps I should try my old Cubase VST 3.7 to see if I can use a lower ULLI setting. Perhaps I shouldn't, because when I find out it does work better, then I'll regret that I tried it. There's no way I'm going back to 3.7 after working with 5.0 for so long.

Hello,
I am a new User to the Pulsar World
and I must admit this is by far the best thing what could happen to me and my puter. I bought the PulsarI on Saturday and installed it just yesterday. At first I was dissapointed that I "only" could get 13ms latency at 44.1Khz because I am used to the 7ms from my Waveterminal from Egosys. But reading that other users report 23 or higher somehow makes me satisfied again. I am not very much into the whole Pulsar system yet but in my 2.04a Software I see the ULLI (someone stated it is not there for Pulsar I, strange?). Lower latencies are not allowed.
Conecrning the VIA686B PCI Bandwith Problem I´ll make my experiences with this but I tend to put another Pulsar in there as I am hungry for even more DSP Power before I even started to use it heavily
My Setup:
ASUS A7V133
Athlon 1GHz @ 1.1
512MB SDRAM 133
Waveterminal 24/96
Pulsar I
Matrox G400 Dual
Seagate 40GB HD
Some 4GB SCSI HD
Adaptec 2940U
Steinberg USB2Midi
Regards

hmm this is a bit worrying. I have been using a pulsar2 in a pii 266, 198Mb (yeah v. lowly I know) and was hoping when I up grade (soon methinks) all will be well at low lactency. Cubase5 seems fine with 25ms under my setup. I tryed lower settings, just for a laugh, and wasn't too suprised when all started falling to pieces. Interestingly enough I did get some life out of it at about 7ms - until I moved the mouse! - those mouse interupts were just too much and caused clicks etc.
I have found removing as many of those background processes as possible did help. I also fixed the swap file size but I cant say if I noticed any difference from this.

white, if you have a 500mhz (approximately) CPU, then you can easily get 13ms latency. Also <a href=http://planetz.ghostwheel.com/phpBB/vie ... m=3&1>read this</a>.

I would say CPU speed has more impact on how low latency you can get than the amount of RAM.
I have a Pulsar1 + Pulsar2 SRB.
Before I had a P2 450 and could get 13 ms stable with no pops and cracks, lowering latency to 7 ms gave some pops and cracks (this puts more load on the CPU, check the CPU meter in cubase)
Changed to P3 866, now I get 7 ms stable.
All latecnies are at 44.1 khz, Pulsar 2.04, Cubase 3.7

l an achieve 4 ms with perfect clear sound but if l try 3 ms l get clicks and pos in some vst instrument (reacktor, ppg waldorf...)
My system (relevant parts):
Pulsar I + powersampler
Atlhon 1.1 ghz
Asus a7v (tweaked for best pci perfomance)
512 mb of ram
I find amazing that people with similar system get very worst results, what´s going on?
