EMagic Logic for windows to be discontinued!
Air_Pollo, people have their ways of working, braincell is confortable on a pc, you are obviously confortable on a mac.
But noone should be forced into paying 2K to start learning a different way from scratch, even if the one way is 'better' this applies to both mac and pc users.

I don't know how much better or worse a mac is but what I do know is that my PC is working well and to my satisfaction, also Logic and Creamware are not my only software. I use a lot of tools costing thousands of dollars which took a long time to install and configure, furthermore I do not want to be using two computers. Windows XP is an outstanding OS for me.
before deciding, which plattform to work with i went to the music fair in frankfurt (germany) and informed myself at creamware, emagic and steinberg. one big argument of all companys was, i shouldn´t worry to much, since their solution is cheap anyway and everything is working fine together, no matter, if i decide for pc or mac (at this time i was still working with atari and akai hd recorder, rocking stable sync!). so i took my decisions and bought two! licenses for logic, sounddiver, unitor8, pulsar and pulsar srb, sts4000, a16 and, of course, the actual high end pc with monitor and all you need. so, who says, a kind of this decision is easy, since one single buy isn´t so expensive anyway. in the mean time many plug ins and other cool stuff came out, so i bought even more pc software and so on. but let me go back to the first desicion. after setting up the whole stuff (learning how a pc works etc.) i went through a hell of asking support and get the machines to sync together without clicks and irregularities. i bet, emagic made some development by using me as a free beta tester. and now some of you mac users are trying to tell me, i shouldn´t worry to much and mac is better anyway and bla bla. one main desicion for not buying mac was, that it´s a to closed system (no clones, no competition, to high prices) and there has nothing changed in macs politics till now, i would say, it´s getting even worse. so please stop this bla is better than bla story. what is happening, is a big annihilation of money. it´s apples desperate try to survive. so if i now decide to buy a mac and all you need etc., who of you mac is better than pc people can guarantee, that tomorrow mac is still on the market? one secret of succesfull business is, to decide for devices which last on the market. i´m sad, that emagic dropped out of reliability and i hope, that apple decides to continue pc support, maybe only to get a better reputation on the market. since they want to port osX to pc, i don´t see a reason, why apple shouldn´t expand on the pc market, maybe even with logic.

Actually,
10 years ago was a pretty good time for Apple (acutally around 94)....they had just released the first series of PPC chips in their Powermac 6100, 7100, and 8100 lines. Things were looking up.
But FIVE years ago......now THAT was bad. It was before Jobs came back to Apple, and there were CLONES, and the company was losing so much money it was unbelievable.....
But I know what you mean.
I just wish Commodore hadn't gone under.
Cheers

What about HARDWARE support for WINDOWS????
Anyone know if this will be continued?
I was about to buy an Emagic 2I6 USB for my PC laptop, but now I am not so sure . . . and frankly, there is no comparable replacement for that cute lil blue box
EDIT: NEVERMIND. I found one for a steal online and stuck my neck out a bit.
Gear-lust I suppose

I think I'll buy the Midex4 eventually and use it along side my Amt8.
I had the Commodore but eventually graduated to the Atari after that a 286 and a series of Pentiums... I, II and III but not IV because some people said it was a dog.

Apple is gearing up for something. Recently, They bought 2 very powerfull Visual Effects Compositing Software companies/packages. Nothing Real's Shake and silicon Grail's Rayz.
After purchasing these companies they also announced that they were discontinuing both Windows and Linux support.
It wouldn't surprise me if they were making a move at purchasing Cubase as well.
The company that I work for recently purchased 40 licenses of Rayz. We now have no support and no upgrade path.
So goes the commercialism that has made this country great.

Saying they would buy Steinberg Jones is wild speculation. It certainly would be a near monopoly. I for one would rush to purchase and learn Sonar. I am already a registered Cakewalk user from way back. The wrath of Cubase PC users would be enormous, not to mention dealers. I see the purchase of Emagic and the "real people" ads to be an act of desperation. The snide attitude of Apple and their following has always annoyed me to no end.

I'm not surpised that Apple brought Emagic. Bloody sensible move. Apple did the same thing with Final Cut Pro, and look at the results. It's not cheap, but it works flawlessly, and it is cheaper than the competitors.
Apple hardware rocks - you get what you pay for.
What's the bet the Emagic has been deeply involved in OS X audio/midi architecture from the very beginning? Very bloody likely.
And OS X audio/midi support is actually really good from what I've seen. I've tried Reason 2.0 and Logic on OS X and they both rock.
No VST support in Logic for OS X. I don't see this as a bummer. Audio Units seem to be far better technology than VST 2 - less latency. And there is still rewire support (well, it's almost there). And this is a Pulsar/Scope group - what are you using VST for?
Creamware have promised us OS X support in 2003. Cool, but pity about the wait.
It is a shame that Emagic are dumping their PC user base - it's kinda "wrong" but I know I will benefit down the track, because the considerable effort that must be required to maintain the PC version can now go into making Logic an even better product. (And who can argue that Logic is already THE MOST POWERFUL native audio sequencer on the market ?)
One more thing. Before anyone bitches to me about Apples "unfair" business practice, just take a look at Microsofts history, and then go and read about Palladium - it should scare you. If it doesn't, I can't help you.
Respectfully,
Happy Emagic/Apple/Creamware user.

so it's good that apple (think different) acts like m$? it's actually o.k. for emagic to drop pc.it's their perogative.what's stinky is that after making everyone wait for v5 and charging them $150 AND working them into buying logic control(or trying to anyway),they drop pc support weeks later. that's plain mean.
to me it's all the same.i just want to use the stuff.from what i can see, there's very little difference between pc and mac beyond the surface.you can talk about how the stuff works right out of the box,but for that price,it should.a pc costing that much works perfectly as well.actually, a pc that is made of the top quality components that a mac is made of, costs hundreds less.apple is milking their customers,HARD.it's most definitely a "g" thang, just like the rest of the computer business.(think slave labor in places like china and mexico, not to mention u.s. prisons)
let's not be partisan.i'd happily use a mac! don't think that cute ads or snappy websites mean that these companies love you.they are entities who feed off YOUR love, hate and energy.they are legally human, but they are NOT human.big corporations are non-corporeal in reality, but they ARE alive and they must eat or die.

I'm not arguing that Emagics withdrawl from the PC platform sucks. Well all know it does. BIG TIME.
I can't even see the sense in it - 70,000 users, or 35% of a products installation base, represents a HUGE drop in market share. It's almost incomprehensible.
It occured to me that another possible reason why Apple/Emagic dumped the PC platform is piracy. I couldn't believe how easy it was to find a cracked version of Logic 5.1.3 on a certain, well known peer-to-peer network. No dongle/XSkey required.
I couldn't find a Mac version of Logic that was cracked, nor do I want to see one. I buy everything, and although as a result I sometimes don't eat much, I do sleep better at night.
I'm not arguing that security is any better on a Mac, but that there are so many dishonourable, but clever, PC users out there who have the skill set required to perform such an act of theft.
It seems to me that the majority of serious (read money-making) musicians are Mac based. There are definitely more Macs in pro studios than PCs, though I'm sure the balance is changing. People who make money off software in general pay for it, which is as it should be.
What really scares me is that as a result of the user-base reduction the price of upgrades may sky-rocket. I've always been immeansly impressed with the frequency and quality of Emagic product updates - I pray this won't change, and I pray we don't end up having to pay for minor updates.
I reckon MS will buy Steinberg next, and then it will all be on for young and old. That'd be just too amusing...

Interesting theory but Steinberg is cracked even more frequently and I don't think they will be dropping Cubase for Windows!
From day one Apple has had an attitude. They want to be in control partly to make things work better and partly to make more profit. Apple clearly will never dominate the market as they once planned to do so now they are trying to sure up their grip on computer music and arts. Many musicians use a Mac but I sense that Apple feels it's domination even in that area is slipping. Buying Emagic and dropping the pc users is a desperate move from a desperate and sad company. I have nothing but hate for them.

Big Gold Dumbell prize for you as most crazy poster I read at the forum. You load up hack on peer to peer then test to see no dongle needed just to have fun time? Then look for Mac hack ? Then say secureity not better then in same line say it is! Your silly talk like big corrupt politicons. OK knob meister, that post did not gain you any more respect from my side. And you don't get a price for making one of the only personal attacks lately here at PlanetZ. It is not needed.

You could have sent me an email full of your distain for my post. I'd love to be able to write you an email with my response, but you don't seem to have one registered. No-one else wants to read it. I'll go back to my original post and change "suggesting" to "arguing". Will that make you happier? On 2002-09-16 11:09, Uber Knob Meister wrote:

It looks to me, you are on the same side (and the same side as me for that matter). All have voted agains warez. Steve just told us how easy it was to find at the place we all know it can be found. Nothing new - just reflections over the Apple take over (as I see it anyway).
