After installing a DVD-drive in a stable XP system (yes, i know "never touch a running system") the CD-burning process is damaged.
I just swapped the CD-rom for the DVD drive.

For about two weeks everything worked fine.

But now, every time I start Nero 5.5.5.1 it shows different burning speeds varying from 2x to 16x (but drive can burn with 32x max.)

More worse: burning stops all of a sudden somewhere in between the process.
After this, all drives are locked and can only opened after a cold restart.

IDE CH1: HD Master
IDE CH2: CD-R Master, DVD Slave
IDE DMA 100 cables.
Several different CD-R media checked.

So what?

Thanks in advance,

cd burning seems to be a sensitive process.you can uninstall every burning program, clean the registry, update aspi and then reinstall cd burnig prog.good luck if all else fails you will have to start fresh, format and reinstall everything..(after backing everything up.......)
