Ok, six string definitely allows me to do wah guitars like never before. Actually have a pretty good getup of six string going through a custom mod patch for wah effect, controled by a MIDI pedal.
What's the wah thing anyway? I now think, against popular belief, that it's not as simple as using a bandpass with high Q. But rather, a combination of 2 bandpasses, both at different locations. (hence a more "real" formant) Any info on this? I still seem to loose too much high frequency info because I'm using bandpass. The balance is hard. The "Oo" formant is easy, but then when it's "ah" formant, I can't let too much high frequency through or else it doesn't sound like an "ah" anymore. I wonder how Crybaby does it. I want that "cry".
Also, for optimum 16 beat cutting sound like in Barry White's Love's Theme, you either distort the sound before the wah unit. It seems like that's just how it's done. Didn't work too well the other way around. Are there any other wah tricks that you know? Funky guitarists? Anyone?
So anyway, I don't have enough experience with wah pedals to imitate it. Please teach me something about your experience with it.

for general info (Technology link). Playin the thing depends on what you want to have. I use a Boss ME 10, so I can define the range of the pedal. Like 40-70 out of a range from 0-100. This is good for long slow movement. The full range is good for things like fast tremolo or short screaming, movement in these cases is fast. A sudden push is useless. So too fast movement is to avoid. That's the easy basics. It takes some time to figure out how your pedal works and I recommend to wear very light or no shoes. Makes it easier to get the feeling into your foot: THE HARD THING TO GET IS TO HAVE THE MOVEMENT CONSTANTLY FLOWING.

maybe you try it with a real wah like "crybaby" and let it run through a real guitar amp and pic it again with a mic. that should be the best sounding way. i have a boss thing with the above mentioned feature and a "crybaby". i prefer "crybaby", because the range and the type of filters used are giving me the "original" sounding results. and one thing is true: keep it in a flowing movement.

Plug a control pedal to control the cutoff of a LPF and whack away on it like you were tapping your foot to the beat( the Eric Clapton way).
Vary your foot movement and you can get some very expressive results(the Frank Zappa way).

FEw years back, when I only had an EPS 16+ with no modulation/filter capabilities, I used to do filter modulation using my old cheap Hendrix Wah (not a cry baby, the basic thing). It was not bad, not very convincing but doable.
By this, i mean it's doable to run a synth through a wah.
IT is pretty hard to apply wah to a guitar that has been recorded dry, because what makes wah wah cool is the interaction between the hand and the foot, the way the player synhronizes them or feel them, and there are good chances that, with a wah wah, he will play very differently than without one.
I would add, to the LP, a band pass or modulated hi-pass to make a wah sound.
