The Sound Example let you hear a way to use this module. In the first part, the drums are a real miked kit (not EQ'ed that nice, I know), and in the second part the BD & SN are replaced by samples.
From time to time I have miked a drumkit up in a way, I regret later in the mix process. Well, then I turn to this wonderful DX plugin called Drumagog (http://www.drumagog.com). It replaces your audiochannel with multisamples, and does it damn well. It can even output MIDI event data to your favourite sound module.
I know it's a little like cheating, but with the f..., the results are usually astounding, escpecially if you have some good multisample drumsounds.
But anyway, I missed the option to play LIVE with drumreplacement, which my latency with DX doesn't alove me to (course I'm not satisfied with 5 ms delay).
This modular III patch does exactly that, replace incoming audio at Left input, and outputs sample at Left output.
While the sample is played louder when a louder signal triggers it, I wish in the future I can make this to work with multisamples. Now, that could be a beast...
Just extract the zip file in your SFP folder. Then the drumtrigger will be in your Modular2 menu, under Noah Laux patches.
ENJOY...
P.S. There are some readymade presets in there too.
P.P.S The frog doesn't bite
P.P.P.S If someone with Modular II is dying to get this, I can make a patch for you. Or just copy the diagram yourself.
SIGNALFLOW EXPLANATION :
GAIN
If your signal is too low or high, you can adjust it here.
FILTERS
Here you narrow in your sound source. Be sure to turn down volume of the ORIGINAL and SAMPLE, and turn up for the LISTENER.
SAMPLE TRIGGER
The envelope follower triggers the sample, and allow you by the output gain, to adjust the sensivity of the drumreplacement. If it's not reacting like you want it to, you can play with the compAX too. Here the treshold does interaction with the envelope followers output, and the Sens knob controls how often the sample are triggered.
VOLUME ENVELOPE
Here the Envelope Follower controls the volume curve of the triggered sample. You can adjust the Attack and Release of the curve.
MIXER
Original (MIX 1) adjusts the volume of the audio coming from the left input of the modular
Sample (MIX 2) adjusts the volume of the sample
Listener (MIX 3) adjusts the volume of the signal running through the filters
