hello everyone,

i just bought a pulsar 2 plus card and i have a routing question for anyone who is using logic with sfp. my main 1&2 stereo mix in logic is being routed to the 1L&1R channels of the sfp mixer. that part is fine. however, i want to use masterverb on one of my logic tracks, so i have the aux of that logic track going to bus 1 in logic. the output of bus 1 in logic is 3&4 which is then routed to the 2L&2R channels of the sfp mixer (which has masterverb on the insert).
i want to bounce all of that to one stereo track with the reverb and all, but logic only lets you bounce one stereo track at a time. this means i'm not able to record that reverb that i have along with the rest of the track.
i realize this is sounds very confusing, but i have no other way of explaining it. can anyone please help me?

thanks in advance!

You can't use Logic's bounce function and incorporate any Pulsar anything. The ounce function only operates within the ASIO VST environment. It may be possible using XTC, but I don't use it and as such can't comment on it. What you'll probably have to do is run your Mixer out (or whatever the final stage connecting to you're speakers is within SFP) and record to a new wave file. You can do this by either running that final stage into a WAV input and recording the mix into SoundForge (or a similar program) or you can run the final stage back into an ASIO input and set the corresponding input in Logic to a new track that is set to record (BUT NOT TO OUTPUT - if you cherish your ears/speakers/mix), meaning set it to a track which does not go to a mixer input or is muted (though I can't remember if it'll record when muted, using SX these days), assuming your using a Creamware or external mixer.

Hope that makes sense.

yeah sam. your post makes sense...but it's a little dissapointing at the same time. i bought the pulsar for its xtc mode and i found out that its unusable with my setup. i was then hoping that i could reduce the strain on my comp by dedicating dsp hungry effects from my tracks to the pulsar. now i find out that that's useless (unless i completely change the way i've been making music). well, i guess i can still use the pulsar as a soundcard and for its synths....

...and now the violins are playing.

thanks for your help sam.

WRONG!!
you CAN incorporate pulsar effects when bouncing in logic. here's how:

First make sure you use the "ASIO2-32 source 64" and an "ASIO2 Dest", right click the source and set the asio settings to say, 8 source channels and 8 dest channels.

Use the Micromixer, connect asio source 1L-1R to micromixer 1L-1R. Connect MixL-MixR to pulsar Analog dest.

Load a masterverb into SFP, now route asio source 2L-2R into masterverb and route masterverb into asio dest 2L-2R.

Start logic.
In logic you have a plugin called I/O.(stereo->Logic->helper->I/O). insert it into bus1 and set it to "out 3-4" and "in 3-4". make sure bus1 is set to "Output 1-2" at the bottom of its mixer pane.

There you go! if you bounce "output 1-2" the masterverb WILL be included.
if you wanna use a pulsar synth, connect it to next free asio dest, in this case 3L-3R, and use an aux channel in logic.
set the aux channels input to "input 5-6" and the output to "output 1-2".
Same here, the pulsar synth WILL be included.

This is why Logics I/O plugin is the best thing since The Police and Danish beer!!!

Now go connect dammit!

Of course you can insert the I/O plug into any audiotrack/audioinst you want.

just be careful with the settings in I/O,
DO NOT use the same ins-outs in two I/O's. if you do, there will be feedback mayhem.
just use the next I/O ins-outs "in line", that's why a good tip is to start with at least 8 asio sources/destinations.

Hope i made sense.

siberiansun, you really don't know how much you've helped me out!
omg! the helper->I/O plugin. that was the misssing link! so simple, yet seeing as i didn't know what that was, i never would have found out how to incorporate pulsar's effects into logic without changing the way i've been producing music for the last few years.
i was a few mouse clicks away from selling my pulsar until i read your post and now my whole outlook on the card has changed.

thanks x 100

peace,

couldn't agree more Central! i started out just like you, trying to get the XTC mode to work and it did...well 1 out of 4 times.

Then somewhere in this forum someone mentioned the I/O plugin and what a great thing it was. Made me curious of course and suddenly i saw the light.
My PC and CW cards runs like clockwork and ever since i bought a 2nd monitor (highly recommended!!) and put the whole SFP enviroment in the 2nd one everything is just SO DAMN SMOOTH!

That's why i'm bound to stick with logic, the I/O.

friday night... cheers!
