braincell- If you are so severely entrenched in your stubbornness as to imply that people who do not share your reductionnist, selfish, godless and pitiful perspective of life as being brain damaged, then you are unfortunate indeed. I don't condemn you for that though, but your way of dealing with reality and your fellowmen certainly is worse than most of organized religions.
Unless you retract this pathetic statement of yours and apologize, then sorry pal, this is the end of our discussions, and even if you put a smiley after, it doesn't really attenuate your words... I am not angry but I'm not anyone's doormat either, so be careful with your affirmations.
God bless you.
Otherwise, yes hallucinogenic substances may be a way to shake and crack some old brain programming, but I personally really don't recommend their use for some are very powerful and can be dangerous. Many people take them and forget that we absolutely must find non intoxicating ways to reach our own Inner Divine Self. The first and most important thing I realized is that we have to get acquainted with our God-Self and accept Its Supremacy over our lives. This means to vizualize lightrays and oceans of Sacred Fire around us as well as others and the whole planet; it means to give the conscious command that "I AM God-controlled right now and forever!" and sustain that affirmation both in the mental and the feeling.
Of course, the more Light we invoke, the more we must assert self-control and prevent this Energy from being requalified with hate or irritation or any discordant emotions. It means that once we're on this Path, we must stand guard over ourselves and permit only harmonious thoughts and feelings to exist within our world. Otherwise negative feelings would have tremendous destructive power because of the Energy that we call from our own God-Self...
Be at peace
so why algorithmic composition?

this interview includes subject matter that touches on much of what we have addressed in this thread. it is long, but worth checking out. Eno has long been one of my "mentors" from afar.

Wavelength! You are a man after my own heart
Eno has been a MAJOR influence ever since I picked up "Discreet Music" in a used record bin. I experimented a lot with those tape loops, I had 2 Akai 4000DS reel-to reel's. I used step sequencers triggered by time-modulated envelopes. I used my voice and even percussion. The layers upon layers of single-note melodies played on a Korg MS-20 gave me some beautiful results(Ken has heard some of this music). I even remixed some of the loops by playing them backwards; this gives the impression of elements coming towards the listener instead of away like an echo does.
The step-sequencer stuff, like in "Discreet Music", can be described as the beginnings of algorhythmic composition.
P.S.: Eliam, I now have a higher respect for you.

The discussion was an interesting one for me.. it confirmed my own suspicions I have held for a long time.. that atheists can be way more fanatical than certain religious factions
My only final word on the matter would be to Braincell- I too was once an atheist, and no, it was not hallucinogenic mushrooms which made me 'see the light' or whatever. All I can do is reiterate what I said in my last post, keep yourself open to things. Stubbornness is an ugly and destructive trait, no matter what the subject matter is.
Anyway the real shame here is that the original thread got a bit lost somewhere... just goes to show that for many of us, music and spirit are inseparable!
peace

I don't have to apologize for saying that drugs cause brain damage. The effect of drugs is to impair the brain. I myself have killed many brain cells. I'm sorry to have taken the subject off topic. Somebody wondered if computers can be spiritual. In many ways computers are not as intelligent as we are and may never be but to say we are better because we have some kind of magic power to me is ludicrous. Eliam, I have nothing against you or your superstitions but you have to realize that not everyone takes for granted these things that are so evident to you. I think the real question is can computers be intuitive? It takes a lot of nuerons to do this and they operate in ways we do not yet understand. The brain is so complicated it might take thousands of years or more to figure out how it works. Maybe even a million years.
