We got our first G5 earlier this week, the 1.6 GHz model.
First thing to do was offcourse to check for myself if Apple had been too "optimistic" with their perfomance figures ? It doesn't seem too bad:
I was able to run 48 stereo PlatinumVerbs in Logic, same as on my 2.6 GHz Pentium 4.
And it stayed very quiet even with almost 100% cpu-load for +30 min.

The dual 2 GHz G5 with it's 1 GHz FSB should be a great Logic box, yes ? (And you're gonna need it with their new conv.reverb!)

To bad there's no Creamware cards for the G5. (yet.)

with the new G5 supermachine it's like you maried the most beautifull woman of the world and then you find that she's lesbian.

Kim, sorry to be a pain, but can you do a Spectral Gate test as well? It's a purer test of DSP power (Platinumverbs are dependent on memory bandwidth too).

I'll do the SpectralTest on the G5 monday if I get the time.
Meantime I redid the tests on my P4, booted in my MusicSetup instead of dev/test:
53 PlatinumVerbs
52 SpectralGates !!!

Interesting that Apple's audio test is Cubase vs. Logic and that they don't mention what plugins they are using...

I guess if you're going to do the test again, it might be worth doing the one they suggest here:

I imagine they'd appreciate some G5 data.

Cheers,
Will

G5 1.6:

PlatinumVerb: 51
SpectralGate: 31 !?

Seems like SpectralGate is not exactly optimized for the G5 yet. (It is for Pentium4.)

thought you'd get "no, adding a 54th reverb won't make your song better anyways" seriously though it's good news that you didn't get an asio overload... the asio 2 driver performs well, good for you steinberg
