on december i will go, for my work at university, in Uruguay. :grin:
on my last trip i went to india and bought a Sitar and some flutes...
now, which kind of typical musical instruments should i look for?

Bandoneon is a very nice instrument they play proudly there. It's like an acordeon, with the same registers.. but smaller.

i bought two sets of strings in india for 20$ each, but i already broken a lot of them! :sad:
what about castor oil? i don't know anything about it!
i'm currently looking for some sitar video tutorial and books: i found something in USA but i would spend a fortune on shipping. do you know some indian instruments seller in europe, by chance? :wink:

I don't know any vendors in Europe, sorry.

The oil is what sitar players put on their fingers to slide easier on the strings. Ravi Shankar has a little bowl of the stuff beside him when he plays.

a little update! :smile:
i will leave on monday 8: in Uruguay there is an "International School on Crystal Growth, Characterization and Applications", and i have to give a lecture on the subjects i have dealt with during my PhD thesis (it's my very first lecture in english and in an international school!!)
if you are curious, look for the "secret link" in my site... i have uploaded my power point presentation just in the case the CD with my data is lost... :wink:

beside this, i hope to return with some new musical instrument!!

There quite a famous purveyor of Asian/Ethnic instruments near Covent Garden in London (tablas, sitars etc.)

Uruguay is famous for crystals stones like amethyst and the like. You might make a small fortune if you manage to bring the proper ones with you - but I dunno if this applies to export restrictions :smile:
