Hi all,
First time poster to this forum. I apologize before hand if this topic belongs to a different forum/section.
I am a med-student/former techie who knows very little about music (including the software/hardware part of it). My wife is the musician between the two of us, she plays the piano and sings.
So, I am trying to make her a virtual studio.
I have a Athlon 2400+, soyo DRAGON ultra platinum, 1 gig really fast mem, 80gig WD HD, Luna II card, and Cubase SX. I have attached her keyboard via midi-in to the card, and a pair of speakers to audio-out. I have attached her 4-track via audio-in. I would like cubase to mod/record the midi, while also recording audio from the 4-track, without considerable delay.
I just somehow managed to fudge around with SCOPE (file attached) and have sound coming out from the pc. I also have midi recordable via the same set-up. I have to admit that there is a huge learning curve for me to learn the set-up and I have no idea what to look/read.
I have attached my SCOPE set-up. My main needs are to record midi from the keyboard, audio-in from the four track, and sound out through audio-out.
Although I have the above covered, I just wanted to double check with the experts to make sure the set up is as it should be. ( I am not gonna even start with cubase…)
Please help.
Thanks.

first of all welcome, second start reading the manuel SFP and cubase!!!
read nestor's post on routing(pulsar study)
don't panic take your time, all is very logic
what you need as far asI understand
what you want:
anolog source(is 4track) > asiodest(cubase)
asio source(cubase)> anolog dest (amp!!+speakers)
midi source> sequencer midi dest
disconect the rest for now.
don't forget about cubase, you'll need it
good luck!!

Anyway, I coudn't agree more with VirtualSutiod, you MUST read the manual. And I mean, ALL the manual. You need to get to know what you have in your hands, you'll know how to take the most out of it too.
Anyway, latest Creamware manuals have improved a real lot, and you'll probably enjoy reading them, they are very clear, but very short for what this platform is capable of doing. Particularly short when talking about rouding. There should be a special PDF, easily, about 200 pages talking about routing and its posibilities. You'll really need to be patient I guess...
We look forwared to leasten to your wife's musicianship, she's going to be the only woman in this forum, making music... We don't know of any so far. Good luck

Kensuguro posted it for you, I'm puting it here, so you keep track of all:
"Taking a look at your routing, you'd first of all want to connect the MixL and MixR from your mixer to the wav dest module. Else you probably won't be able to record your master mix.
Other than that, it seems fine. You're not using the SPDIF outs are you? Either way, you don't want to connect your SPDIF dest to your wav dest. It doesn't make sense to have 2 dest modules connected."

I finished reading the SFP (3.1) from their site. It helps, but is missing tons of info.
For example, it would've helped alot if they explained in at least a paraghraph all the items/sub-items in the routing window.
BTW, when I use keyboard, there is a fraction of second delay on what is heard through cubase. Is that normal??
What do the Min and Mout mean???
Thanks again.
Now, off to reading cubase manual.

Hello -
I'm not sure about the picture and I know the sfp manual is pretty limited.
The latency (delay) between the keyboard is very unlikely to be a problem with the soundcard (that's what it's meant to be good at avoiding). So I would check the settings on your CUBASE to see what latency that it playing at. It might be a problem with the ASIO driver which ferries the audio from the 4-track to cubase (all audio in the setup suggested for you is running through cubase, so it has to get to cubase and away from it before it gets to the amp). There is a settings window in cubase which might help with these matters, but my own DAW is dead (well, the graphics card is anyway !) so I'm afraid I can't check exactly where.
Anyway hope that helps a little and good luck !
Lurning curves are very steep in my experience . . .
Will.
p.s. you might want to check the FAQ about loading your picture. I think you'll need to put it on a server and insert a link. The codes are listed on this site.

Thanks for your reply.

I am sure it is not an optimized set up, and i would greatly appreaciate any feedback if you notice any thing out of place.
I will look into cubase settings.
thanks again.
