Mic preamp - need advice.

Hello people.

Im in need of a semi cheap mic preamp to use in my home studio. I´ve been looking at the Behringer Ultragain Pro Mic220. It can currently be bought in Sweden for 1500 skr which is approximately 160 euro.

If anyone has used this particular preamp, does it sound ok, and do you think its a good buy at the above mentioned price?

If anyone has any other preamp to suggest to a guy with modest economical assets, Id be happy to hear it

it sound ok
but for cheaper preamps i would recommand
Presonus TUBEPre

a warmer/ clearn sound (to me anyway)

i can get better result with softwares
eg. you better EQs and excitors
UAD-1's compressor, Pultec, and BBX maximizer are the one i use the most for spicing things up~

then you haven't got what a pre-amp is about - some homework required...

DON'T GO WITH TUBES!! All they do is introduce distortion and cut out all the high end. Go with a clean, precise, no-nonsense mic preamp. I used Mackie's preamps in their 1402-VLZ Pro mixer, which of course is too huge and bulky if you just want a little box. But I got fabulous results, and it'd be best if you found something comparable.

forget the 2200, if you want to go behringer the mic 100 got the same, but for your supposed range search tfpro P3, search well and choose better

According to one Nuendo user, this pre did come out second in a direct shootout whith all the higher-end units. But this is only information from second hand since I haven't heard it myself. But one things's clear...your payment doesn't have to compensate any cosmetic developments since this unit is an "ugly" little thing

Yes, I got one!
It has one good feature - it's a NORMAL mic preamp. With no hype (like TLA) or perversion of a quasi-vintage type.

in other words it's very transparent and natural sounding. I think I will buy two of those. Unfortunately the german street price is €269 compared to $149 in the US. I think I will try to order them in the US.

i've used rane mic pre's for years and i love them!

punchy, transparent, very quiet.

definitely worth the extra money over the behringer.

I bought the Grace Design 101 because nobody said anything bad about it. It doesn't do much and is a little expensive but I think it's nice. I still haven't used it because I'm moving and also need to buy balanced cable and unbalanced to balanced. That is the only drawback. It has no unbalanced holes.
