CW looking for experienced OSX and Linux hackers

Hi.
We just started an effort to port the SFP to Linux,
coordinated by Frank Hund of Creamware and myself.
This is a community-effort, so we're still looking
for some capable coders to join the Scope4Linux
project. If you want to help out, read on!

The idea is to create a common codebase for OSX and
Linux (the OSX port is almost finished). The Linux
driver should be easy to port, the SFP is already
mostly cross-platform. Two Linux hackers are part of
the project right now, with support from Creaware's
OSX coder.

What we need:
- OSX hackers, if possible with some skills in kernel
driver development (CoreAudio). The driver should be
easy to write, most of the work is done by the SFP in
userspace after all.
- Linux coders with good C++ skills, some knowledge
of wxWidgets (formerly wxWindows) would also be very
appreciated.

Not everything of the SFP will become Open Source,
because of the copy protection, for example. If you
want to join, it's a requirement that you would
accept to sign a NDA (non disclosure agreement).

I hope one thing: that crossplatform compatibility doesn't bring a deviating look of SFP on mac.

Yes, but we need an OSX coder with experience in
kernel-space drivers. Everything else is pretty much ready.

And don't be afraid - OSX users would mostly benefit if
we get SFP to work on Linux - the interface system of the
current SFP comes from Linux, after all (wx). See:

Wow, this is great! I use Windows myself, but my brother uses OSX and is anxious for SFP to be ported to OSX. I'm sure a lot of people would love to see SFP on Linux too. I hope CW is going to introduce 3.3v cards for the G5??

I'm pretty interested on the Linux implementation of SFP.
But do you guys know what Audio Recording Software (Hopefully Cubase-alike) is out there for Linux???

Sounds fantastic but we need sequencing and sound editing software to go with it, not to mention a midi interface. I'm kind of skeptical at this point but I hope it catches on.

What exactly do you mean?
I don't think you speak of OSX, and there are quite a few
powerfull and usable tools available for Linux. Like I
said, not exactly as powerfull as Cubase or Wavelab, but
still pretty capable sufficient for day-to-day use.
I mentioned a few of 'em, so - what else do you need?

I think there are 3.3V<->5V PCI adapters available - Tyan offers

This is some hot news! I've been dreaming of uniting the power of SFP with the power of Core Audio. Hopefully they can implement something like XTC mode for Mac but using AU instead of VST.

Forget XTC man - let's get the much more flexible SFP to OSX first. This is very timely news for Maccers (i was even thinking of getting a PC soon, but now i can hold off for a bit).

Well done on all these posts we're seeing now on Planet Z from the all new CWA - it's what everyone's always wanted for so long: communication.

I'm just saying that I need Cubase and wavelab although I would consider using 2 computers linked together with ADAT and word clock. I'll wait until you guys do it first though as I am anticipating problems.
