Can anybody compare the microwave xt wavetable sounds to the modular 2 wavetable sounds. I am thinking of buying one but might opt for a supernova or a virus,q,nord if the mod2 is too similar. Also does anyone know if there are any new synths coming out for the pulsar in the near future that could be worth investing in, as I think sometimes the pulsar synths are very similar.

thanks

Subject: Waldorf microWave XT

I think the main thing about the Waldorf microWave XT is the fact that you get 44 knobs for hands on control. The Waldorf Wavetable Oscillators for Pulsar only have half the number of waves that the XT has (32 vs 64?) so there is a difference in sound. But, you can get similiar timbres anyway out of the Pulsar.

Have you checked out any of the ZARG stuff? Particularly the free Comb Pro over on the PlanetZ download page, I would almost say it's like a "microscopicQ" it definitely can make some Waldorf Q-like sounds (although with a lot less parameters and control, which is what makes the Q the Q...)

Also, the I would compare the sounds of Saturn to a "miniVirus" as you can get some nice plastic synthetic moog like tones out of it.

You should also consider downloading the Vectron synth from the Creamware shop for a 10 hour demo, and maybe the SB404, both are excellent from the reports I've read. I'm planning on using the demos in a track when I have a nice large chunk of time to see if I'd like to buy them. If you try them out, I'd be curious to hear your opinion of them.

Finally the modular2 easily compares with the NordModular (again, based on reports from people who own both), with the advantage of easier expandability with the CW stuff, and more I/O options (and the extreme flexibility in routing).

Hope that helps. There's lots of free devices floating about that are superb...

Subject: Waldorf vs Pulsar

I had the same dilemma, checked out music stores
played Supernova, Virus, Waldorf Q, Korg MS2000 and Clavia. At the end I bought Supernova II keyboard
it is very easy to use and has a great sound, other option was Q but I found it harder to use.
I have Pulsar 1 card with standard modular synth, and found that white noise, and percussion sounds are good as supernova, everything else in pulsar sounds much worse than Supernova.
It all depends on your taste and the money you can throw away. Pulsar + SCOPE SRB board + all available sytnhs for pulsar will cost more than Q or Virus or Supernova.
I have been a happy Pulsar1 user since it was released, however Creamware inflexible upgrade policy and problems with PC hardware and Microsoft
Windows made me looking into other solutions.
So if you like Waldorf Microwave XT, go ahead and get it do not wait for Pulsar solution you might end with not enough Pulsar DSP power to drive synths in polyphony.
Cheers,
Alex

Subject: xt is on its way

Ive decided to go and buy it. I have a supernova also and I get a sound out of that that I cannot get in pulsar, I suppose you could call it polished. But I still love my soundcard as it ties everything together.
