This link was posted on the Sonar forum and I thought it was interesting so I'll share it.
This is a movie of Steve Albini discussing the merits of analog recording (among other things). It's about an hour long I think. Very interesting. I agree with him on some points and disagree on other points.

Yeah, interesting talk. I wish I could have asked him to elaborate on his preference for analog recording. His explanation seems to relate to the "permanence" of recording tape:
"I don't use digital recording becuase it's inappropriate for the work I do. I do permanent recording of records that are intended to last for ever .... and the only realistic way to do that is by recording to analog tape "
Huh?
He goes on to diss digital recording as appropriate only for "informal demos, news gathering, jingles, video games...it's fine for most stuff that doesn't matter to me."
But he's "not opposed to digital recording"
This seems to be an iconoclastic opinion to be laying on 21st century audio engineering students.
I still love his Pixies and PJ Harvey recordings.
