Only 4/5 of the overproduced boyband / new country crap will crowd the shelves now. Sounds good to me.

the waiting is for only one big mega-label, probably around the same time that all newspapers and tv stations will be owned by one big corporation.

Yes, there will be only a few majors... Don't forget the 1000s of 1 or 2-men labels and studio's as we work in. It's them that will make the original music, free of contractual obligations. I was afraid media (as a group and industry) would remain solely, and impose us their rubbish. But lately I been searching for small labels, and man, there's loads of quality releases out there, if you know to find them.

Question remains weither the majors will sustain and the public will keep swallowing that crap, or weither a common conscience will grow to appreciate (and support) some more real music.

The parallel can be drawn to global politics and economics, in all that matter the future will reveal... In the meanwhile let's not give in, and try our best

No wonder the music inductry is dying.

What do you expect with a limited bunch of guys deciding what we are to listen to on radios and TV's around the world?...
Are we listening?..

Who bothers to watch TV or listen to the radio any more?!?

Edit: King of Snake's point about newspapers does scare me though. My local paper gets all its news from Ontario (CanWest-Global), and every paper in the world gets crap from the Associated Press. There are also online sources where The National Post has been known to get its "outsourced" journalism. You can, these days, go to a website and pay $50 for an article if you can't be bothered hiring your own reporters and editors.

Thank goodness for globalisation and The Guardian Weekly... Not exactly objective reporting but at least they're still independent of the North American media monoliths.

I don't really care about pop culture, though. It has been dead for at least 10 years, maybe a lot longer than that. There are alternatives to radio, TV and Virgin MegaStore. Therefore let ClearChannel do what it likes, it won't affect me directly.

if they earn more with ring-tone licensing than with album releases, it's not the music industry but the 'customer' who's to blame

cheers, Tom

Personally I haven't listened to the radio since 1991/92. Interesting someone else should say that pop music has been dead that long (at least), I definately lost my interest in it when I became old enough to realize it was my money I was wasting on it (rather than my parents').

I don't usually listen to the radio either. Only on saturday night there's usually good dance music on a few stations, and sometimes I listen to bbc radio 1 via their website.
Other than that, it's just all greatest hits and top40 music all day on all channels. But hey, it "what the public wants" according to the programmers.
