I apologize, and before you download, the quality has been heavily taken away from this song as well as several layers added to this song through the upload... please ignore this post and i will try and get something better up soon!

thank you hubird. it is very echoey, but i like the effect myself. I tried cutting down on it, but I felt it just doesn't give the same feeling. maybe i'll just keep this one up and see what others think. thanks for the review!

My apologies, I didn't even listen tothe song, I was just giving you advice on what to dao get a file removed if you posted it in error.

Now that I have listened to it I don't know what you are worried about.

But, to be critical, and that is our purpose here( but it's all for the greater good). I find that the whole recording is a bit "veiled", by which i mean the the top end is not very crisp, somewhat muted. How and with what did you record this?

It's maybe a bit repetitive (vocal), but I think the musical ideas are kinda neat.

Definitely in need of polish but very much worth the effort.

Maybe try varying the vocal effect...

is it just me, the main piano-ish phrase sounds like it's being played an octave too low? Rest of the soud is pretty nice. Could use some more top end, but the wide string-style pads sure broaden the stereo field. So, great horizontal spread, but could use some more vertical width. Cool ambience tho. Musical content is nice too.

oh hey, where'd the bass go? Didn't think I heard anything playing a definitive bassline.

Can't get away from the comparison to Moby's "Play" - but I really liked the mix. Dark and woody and as Kens said the strings bring a nice bright wash to the whole thing.

I think I understand the effect you going for. If you want to see what effect a bit more high end (sizzle) will have on the mix - why not just play with the "damping" on the reverb or try adding a filter after the reverb.

Otherwise, leave it alone - it's effective as it is now.

Hope this is constructive

Thank you all for taking the time to download this and give your ideas on this! I used Cubase to mix all of this together, although i am very new with the program and still learning its ins and outs.

I am, as i'm sure you all have guessed by now, a fan of Moby's work and i think this song does sound a bit like his music. My original plan was not to imitate his work, rather create my own sound. I tried blending a hip-hop beat with ambience and the combination always pleases me. This did however end up sounding much like his work.

I would agree that this would need some "crisping" as well as more vertical range. The reverb is also a bit much and i think i may have gotten carried away with that. Hopefully i will get a bit better at mixing all of this together and improving the overall quality. Thank you again for all of your reviews on this as it seems most of you are very experienced!

I actually like the reverb effect - gives the mix a dark woody sound.

Too much like the stupid Moby song (God I hate him) and too much reverb.

hehe, that's some stringent comment!

I did like that piece quite much, the string harmonies, although repetitive, are beautiful and pleasing to hear over and over. The intervals we hear ceate very rich colors (chords) and the melodic movements are simply well laid. Congratulations for this nice piece of work. Imo, the only thing missing is a first melody, which would sit on top of the tune and give the finishing ornaments, putting the repetitive background rightly in the background, at least when the soloist would perform. that way, the balance (foreground-background) would be created and the piece would shine and appear less repetitive.

As a flsutist, I'm hearing nice flute phrases for your tune... Could be a violin too.

Keep it up dude!
