MAC v PC

Increasingly my work impinges on my music and my music impinges on my work.

So, shall I buy another PC just for music or a MAC? and if so which one ?

Always fancied the idea of a MAC but does Pulsar V3 etc perform better on MAC or PC ?

Maybe dual booting is a good idea ?

PS Is K Wild the legendry pop star ? or was that K Wilde ? Hmmmmmmm

I'm a PC user but , talking to a few friends with both MACs and PCs, I found that with a PC you have to know more about the ins and outs of your machine, i.e. what Motherboard to have, what BIOS settings to use...
It seems I spend more time tweaking my PC than my mixes!
Get a MAC! ( and this from a PC owner

Get a MAC. I work with both PC and MAC
and general, I must know more about the computer bios and bla blda bla with a PC.
Pulsar is a complex system, and there is enough just working with the Pulsar OS
drivers and so on.
Ok there can be major problems with a MAC to.
but it feels easier to get around them with a MAC
than with major problems on a PC.
.....and they are more beatiful !!!

I haven't used Pulsar on a Mac, but in hardware I always go with the mainstream - go with the most used and tested piece of gear. That's PC.

That's exactly why i went with PC, Spirit.
But, much to my dismay, I had to turn my attention form composing to being a computer tech.(I don't think it's just me...)
I praise all you guys who help us get around all these BIOS and Motherboard issues because I'd really REALLY be at a loss!

Topbanana, if you get a PC you can always log on here every 5 minutes to get answers, like I do!

I bought my third G4 mac. This one is a quicksilver model so fast that "reason" seem not be able to use any CPU at all

(I have the G4 at home, I've had it for a few days only and will give a better report later on.)

I used to be a PC owner, but the design of the OS and the GUI, speed, reability, versatility, looks and aroma made the crossover to mac well worth it. All the apps and games of any use, (not the crap) gets ported to mac (in case they didn't develop first to mac).

Well, I hope that made things clearer, I know I don't waste time configuring anything. Just making music flawlessly:)

Btw, I use Pulsar II + SRB card. They ROCK! Hardly ever any crashes!!!

I recommend mac if you can afford them

Oh, I almost forgot, I managed to call CW support and have them help me speaking only german!

doesn't matter that much,but if i was on a limited budget(i am),and if i was buying a new computer for audio w/cw products, i'd get one of subhuman's machines.if i know how a pimp works, i'd bet he'll tell you how to find one.

that would be as good as a mac because the parts were selected to work well together.(information a novice builder only gains thru bitter experience.)

yeah well, i'm not going to claim too much knowledge,but i guess i'm about as good as anyone for giving an opinion.i recognize that the mac has certain advantages,but pc seems to work fine.it does seem that one needs to be more selective about hardware with pc since some things just aren't compatible(certain video cards,mobos,etc.). apple seems to have solved that problem by taking control of the hardware all together. and yes software crashes not hardware,but software crashes for a variety of reasons it seems.(hardware conflicts,bugs,user error,bad tempers) it seems to me that after all is said and done, it's kinda like sequencing software.a good argument could be made for cubase or logic or cakewalk,but still one has to use what one gets skillfully to make anything worth hearing,so in the end it's more important to get the system that one feels most comfortable with and learn it. just as all those sequencers do about the same thing and have about the same features and operation,so with pc and mac. still,if one was a mercedes and one a ford there's no confusion which is which. both vehicles will work well and some fords are very special indeed but there are no new fords that cost more than most american houses.as i typed, if i was on a budget and buying a computer today,subhuman's website seems to have an unbeatable deal. when i bought my pulsar1, i new nothing about what to buy and hence made some bad choices even though i tried to do my homework. and even though i was the one doing all the labor and staying up all night trying to figure out why i had crash-o-rama(bad and wrong mobo,old scsi drivers,old bios,etc.),i still wouldn't have save any money over subhumans very nice pretested package.so if money is no object get a mac maybe?or maybe since it all works regardless of platform,one of subs boxes makes sense cause most all budgets are limited.(i'm sure someone else is making a nice box but subhuman is also the main advice giver on this and the cw forum(if you're reading this sh take a bow) which seems to also be tipping the scales in my mind a bit.

p.s. when do we start bitching for v4 since v3 hasn't made anyone a proper cup of coffee yet?(hasn't made me the most coolest guy on the planet yet either)i just want to be ready.

Mac is out of time, pc is better under every point of view, better priced, more advanced software and better stability with creamware cards.

Gary, thanks for the kind words. There are a few Pulsar users out there who are very happy with their Vortex boxes, since they literally do work 'out of the box.'

That said, a PC running Windows 2000 or Windows XP is every bit as good as a Mac running OS X. I would have a hard time saying one is 'better' than the other, and obviously I like PCs more because I enjoy (uh oh, just labeled myself 'umber geek' there) picking out the exact hardware I want and putting it together...

Just realize when you are comparing the two, that a HP and Compaq are NOT representative of all PCs. The main "problem" with PCs, is you can easily get a really crappy one, particularly if you just get the cheapest one you can find from Office Depot or something. Macs force you to buy their prechosen good set of hardware. This is obviously great for some people... but if you can find a PC vendor that does boxes for specific tasks (hint hint cough cough) then the experience becomes very similiar. And if you can't find a specialized PC builder in your country, a Mac may be the way to go.

Now all I gotta do is get some translucent plastic...

Well Misty thats not true, a PC is very good on a lot of things, but I can tell you I work alot with videoproductions,
with both Highend PC and Macs
well its more problems, (A LOT more with the PC) than with the MAC.
and the MAC is configured like it was from the shop (Firewire is built in, just start to work)
