Of course. Not much chance of getting a reaction out of a climate change forum by talking about VST vs Scope

In any case... I think the issue for some of us isn't whether or not 'global warming' exists but what the motivation behind the politicization of the 'issue' or subject....
“A new currency is emerging in world markets. Unlike the dollar, euro and yen that trade for tangible goods and human services, this new money exchanges for pollution – particularly emissions of carbon dioxide…Carbon credits, as they are called, are poised to transform the world energy system and thus the world economy.”
- David F. Victor and Joshua C. House, “A New Currency: Climate Change and Carbon Credits,” Harvard International Review, Summer 2004, p.56.
That's pretty much what I see. Replacing oil as the basis of an energy economy with carbon credits sidesteps solving anything except for limiting production for those who can't afford it (imo). So how we go from this to 'stopping big oil' is beyond me... Between that and GaryB's assertion that CO2 is actually good for the earth's plant-life (if it can survive the corexit we periodically dump into it) you have the setup for a dissonance between the 'RepAmericans are evil wasters of %whatever%' scapegoat and 'because the experts say so' fallacy.

...and who owns the mechanism for trading those "carbon credits"? as a system, it's a totally artificial economy which needs a host to survive. there are banks who have already set up the infrastructure. who owns those banks?

Meanwhile in Pakistan, evacuations of as many as 10,000 people in the Punjab province and Sindh in the country's worst flooding in 80 years!

no, and he acts like 80 years is a long time, just because it's a long time to him. he doesn't understand that if big floods happen every 80 or 100 years, then it's not an isolated warming incident, because he is willfully ignorant.

In England the federally funded " Climitologists " seem they will be losing funding.
But have no fear, NASA and the NOAA are sure to be taking tempuratures in Needles, CA. and Laughlin, NV. when they aren't holding auditions for Astronauts from the UAE and Pakistan.
Other Mamby Pamby touchy feely programs have already been enacted like Prayer rugs on the launchpads, etc.

I would say using energy that isn't there would be a major scientific breakthrough.

yeah, people love to spread bullshit.

braincell, you still haven't explained any of my questions, all you've done is tell us what we know, that there is weather. just the title of this thread is deceptive enough, "the last decade was the warmest". well, the last decade wasn't even close to the warmest! in the 20th century, the 1930's were warmer. 400 years ago was even warmer than that! the last decade WAS the warmest in YOUR lifetime, perhaps....

Just how far ahead should we be thinking about humans future on earth?
Isn't there an Ice-Age coming in about 20000 years?
I don't hear anyone proposing how we should deal with THAT!
How long into the future will the carbon trading scheme need to be implemented? What are the criteria for it's dissolution?
How does the scheme actually REDUCE emissions? If it becomes like currency, will we have a trading market where you can buy futures and other derivatives? And what happens if there is a carbon trading scheme "crash" Like a stock market crash where billions of credits disappear? How will that be dealt with? I can't see the carbon banks bailing out anyone! If someone sells credits and then can't meet their obligation what is the solution?

Just wondering...

It's not the global warming, it's 'sunspots'

The Republican hopeful for U.S. Senate in Wisconsin raised eyebrows with comments yesterday in which he attributed climate change not to global warming but to sunspots and other phenomena.
