Well I would say:- DON'T GO WITH CHEAP TUBE PREAMPS. Avoid! Especially if it uses a wall-wart powersupply. (IMO)
What kind of powerchord does the MS-1B use? Or how does the power extension behind the unit look like? Although I´ve visted the Rane Homepage I wasn`t able to find out what kind of power connection this unit has. According to pictures I've seen this unit seems to need some sort of plug which clicks into place when engaged.
My question is, how does the extension of that phone like plug look like? Does it run into any kind of external transformer which again has a regular plug which can be extended by a regular powercord? Or can this simple problem be cured by simply using a different powercable?
I have contacted some of the US dealers about shipping the MS-1B to germany (Btw. shipping costs are about $42).
fortunately it means just the opposite
a wall wart is nothing but a transformer (then it's ac out), possibly combined with a simple dc-electronic (usually).
The sophisticated parts of the power supply are on the amp circuitry, so any German device with the proper output power would fit.
It's just that I´ve never seen such a ps with a phone plug (they're maybe more common in live use?). I will contact some Rane dealers on this matter and will try to find the appopriate ps myself. Thanks again!

I've seen all kind of notebook PSU connections break over years - the phoneplug is a real smart and simple solution.
Imho it's unpopular because 'people' tend to plug in everything if a connector is available - regardless of what's connected
They'd fire off phones and modems and can be expected to permanently use the wrong PSUs because there's no coding by plug size
